My husband Mark and I are both gun owners. We respect and value the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans to own and use guns. But gun violence is a national crisis, with firearms claiming 33,000 lives each year. Its an incredibly complex problemonly a fraction of gun tragedies involve someone who is dangerously mentally ill.

Though there is no single cause or solution, we know responsible gun laws save lives. In states that have closed the loopholes that allow felons and domestic abusers to buy guns without a criminal background check, 46 percent fewer women are murdered with a gun by their intimate partners.

As was stated earlier this week by another poster, this is an article that is less than honest, and like most of the cowards, there is no place to post comments. I'm sorry Mizz Giffords got shot, but it is no reason that the rest of us should lose our rights. Additionally, her figure fails to mention that over 2/3rds of those who die by firearms are suicides. Just an inconvenient fact she conveniently fails to mention.

Hey. Gabby. Shouldn't you be in rehab or something? SIDDOWN AND SHADDUP.

Lissen: All the nonsense you schmucks propose will only affect ME, not the guy who shot you, and I'm not who you have to worry about.

Okay, s'pose you passed this BS. Do you REALLY think that it would stop another guy from stepping up to your face and finishing the job?

The correct answer is NO. And since the correct answer is NO, you have no cogent argument to do it.

So, like I said... SIDDOWN AND SHADDUP.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)]
