"'The concept of a 'monopoly on force' might sound foreign or even frightening to Americans that take great pride in our revolutionary beginnings,' Horwitz continues, 'but it is the fundamental organizing principle of any political entity, including the United States.'"
"To back up this assertion, he cites, 'German political economist and sociologist Max Weber.'
"What he doesnt cite is Weber's support for approving Article 48 into the Weimar constitution, establishing 'emergency powers' to bypass Reichstag consent, and allowing Adolf Hitlers rise to unchallenged power. ..." ... |

"But for collectors this really isn't such an odd thing. Consider that military airplanes in museums don't exactly fly ... So while it may seem like heresy to the faithful gun collector, one alternative when it comes to machine guns is actually getting one that is 'non-gun' or 'dummy gun.' But there is a lot more to it.
"Actually until the last decade even machine guns that couldn't fire had been strictly regulated in many states. However, the [ATF], now sees that the only part to be concerned with in a machine gun is the receiver. ..."
"Today the rules have changed, and that 'receiver' is the key to the puzzle." ...

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985) |
