Under the gun of the grouse shooters

"All 'country pursuits' are under the spotlight. Grouse shooting is no exception - to some it's a cruel amusement for the rich; to others it's an important tradition, helping keep rural economies alive."

"Other people are uneasy about a form of meat production where those involved in the harvest derive pleasure from despatching living animals."

QUESTION:
Why is it acceptable to butcher chickens who live their entire lives in factory farm cages but not acceptable to fetch naturally grown food from the field -- merely because pleasure can be derived? Put more succinctly, would the chicken-eating anti-hunting fanatics be bothered by the hunt if it were tedious, laborious and unenjoyable?

"It is now the eleventh hour before Police State America. Less than one year after the World Trade Center attacks, the Federal government--ordinarily plodding and slow, when it comes to mundane matters--is speeding us down the fast track to military government on greased rails. "When it suits their agenda, environmentalists and liberals are extremely solicitous of human life. They oppose capital punishment of convicted murderers, because of the minute chance that an innocent person may be executed. They oppose the war on terrorism, because civilians may be killed."

"If it will 'save just one life,' they are for reducing pesticide residues in food below the already minute levels. If it will 'save just one child,' they are for banning guns completely."

"Yet when it comes to safer cars, preventing malaria and encephalitis, or defense of self and family, suddenly this concern for human life goes out the window. The activists or the media never say that larger cars should be built, that DDT should be re-introduced, or that gun ownership should be encouraged 'if it will save just one life.' Another glaring contradiction goes unnoticed."

Finally! A jury holds the human responsible, instead of the tool!
-------
"A handgun that a mentally ill man used to kill his brother had been carelessly stored by their father, a jury ruled in ordering the father to pay $400,000 in damages to the victim's widow and daughter."

"The jury's verdict last month against William Handley appears to be Missouri's first such civil verdict alleging negligent storage of a firearm, the Missouri Lawyers Weekly legal publication reported Monday."

"In the lawsuit, Kenneth Handley's survivors accused William Handley of either providing his .38-caliber pistol to Kevin Handley or failing to prevent that man's access to the gun. He knew Kevin had mental problems and should not have had access to firearms, according to the lawsuit by Nancy Handley and her daughter, Diona."

"An applicant for a concealed weapon permit who was rejected because police had been called to his home eight times over the past year is appealing the denial."

"The appeal could help better define when a county gun board can refuse to issue a permit under the state's 13-month-old 'shall issue' concealed weapon law, at least for Grand Traverse, Antrim and Leelanau counties, where a circuit court judge will rule on the case."

NOTE: Though the police were called to this fellow's home, he was never charged or even arrested.

MA: Number of Gun Licenses Plummet Under New Weapons Law
Submitted by: Doug Charette

"The number of active firearms licenses in Massachusetts has plummeted in the four years since the state adopted one of the toughest gun control laws in the country."

"There were nearly 1.5 million active gun licenses in Massachusetts in 1998. By June, that number was down to just 200,000, in large part because the new law abolished lifetime licenses."

"Another key provision of the 1998 law has been less successful."

"The law set fines of between $500 and $5,000 for anyone caught with a gun and an expired license but failed to establish a way to enforce the fine."

KABA NOTE: The gun prohibitionists must be pleased that they've turned so many once-law-abiding people into criminals. Either that or they are ignorant enough to believe that over a MILLION people got rid of their firearms when their "licenses" expired.

"Although we sometimes do hand out coins on the street, something tells us not to look away from this man for even a moment."

" 'Sorry, friend,' Dusty says."

"You just bought a book and you don't have a quarter?" he asks incredulously, matching his stride to ours."

CNN's second report on tapes it obtained from an al-Qaida archive in Afghanistan quoted bin Laden declaring various Islamic groups were joining forces to launch a "jihad against the crusaders and Jews."

"Teachers nationwide say they will develop lesson plans about September 11 based on students' questions and will focus on the facts to correct any misconceptions children may have about the terrorist attacks."

"Several teachers said they will tell the 'truth' about the terrorists and their religious background, and will avoid the National Education Association curriculum that cites American intolerance as a reason for the attacks and cautions against assigning blame."

KABA NOTE: The 'truth' they've been led to believe about what really happened on September 11, 2001 came almost entirely from the media and the federal government -- two of the lyingest entites in America.

"Emergency restraining orders - known legally as 209A orders - are being sought in cases where there is no abuse as a way to punish the other party or gain a tactical advantage in legal wrangling, say some attorneys."

"Gun shy judges now work under the 'presumption to grant the order,' said defense attorney Kenneth Shine, who works mainly in Plymouth County."

What's wrong with educating children about guns, and holding parents responsible for the child's behavior?

Does anyone including this political opportunist Cuomo truly believe a criminal will put a lock on his firearm?

"Mexican gangs are staking claim to turf in New York, menacing fellow immigrants as they rack up a deadly record of crime and violence."

"Their favorite exploit is barging into Baptisms, weddings and other Mexican family gatherings, where they threaten guests and steal alcohol."

UNFORTUNATELY...

Anyone "caught" with a firearm without hard-to-acquire government permission -- to use in self-defense against these thugs -- will be carted off to jail and slapped with a felony. ORIGINAL TITLE: "Gun indictment stuns neighbors of Mason man"
-------
"Neighbors in his Warren County neighborhood knew Atallah Adwani, a 45-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen, as a quiet, hard-working businessman and dedicated family man."

"But federal authorities have another view. In a case that stunned long-time acquaintances of Mr. Adwani, federal authorities say he smuggled 470 handguns into his native country, Jordan, from 1995 to 1998. If a jury agrees that he committed the crimes listed in a 16-count federal indictment, he could face a maximum penalty of 100 years in prison plus fines."

KABA NOTE:

1) BATF is heavily involved, and the gun dealer who sold firearms to this "innocent until proven guilty" citizen says he's a genuinely good guy.

2) If the right of the people to keep and bear arms was as uninfringed as intended by our nation's Founders, this fellow could sell handguns to Jordan forever, without getting anybody's permission.

Is BATF afraid someone in Jordan is going to shoot at us here in America? Or are they simply justifying their existence again?

This is a candid but very Leftist look at those plotting war from the safety of U.S. boardrooms -- written from the view of a subject living in what some people call "The United Kingdom".
-------
"Traditionally, the left has always had an inferiority complex about military experience. In Britain, Ted Heath (a wartime artillery colonel) used to patronise Harold Wilson (who spent the war in Whitehall) on the subject. Here in 1996 Bob Dole (badly wounded in the second world war) played the same card against the unheroic Bill Clinton. But as the Bush administration paints itself into an ever-tighter corner with its Iraq rhetoric, it is instructive to note the astonishing extent to which those so anxious to stage the next war managed to be absent from the last one." ...

"Violent crime jumped last year in California. That rise in crime brought to an end the state's eight-year trend of decreasing crime. In cities with populations of 100,000 or more, serious crime rose 3.5 percent."

"Statewide, forcible rapes went up 6.6 percent, homicides went up 3.9 percent, and motor vehicle thefts increased by 8.9 percent. In Los Angeles alone, the overall homicide figure went up 27.5 percent. Serious crimes also rose in Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose."

"But wait!"

"There is one county in California where crime is not increasing. In this particular county there has, in fact, been a 29 percent decrease in violent crime in the past year! That county would be Orange County Santa Ana, Disneyland, Newport Beach, etc."

"Would any of you care to guess why some people think crime is dropping in Orange County while it's climbing throughout California? Could it possibly be that Orange is the only urban county in California that allows its citizens to carry concealed weapons? Carrying a concealed weapon is virtually taboo elsewhere in the state, unless you're a celebrity, a politician or someone guarding a celebrity or a politician."

"Hello, hello! Wake up - that's the smell of YOUR brain being relentlessly brainwashed 365/24/7 by the bloodthirsty hype-meisters of the out-of-control BushMob, with the generous help of their vast stable of toadlike, slavish, cloned, dog-on-a-leash, BigOil-soaked, mass-media whores. AND, that's also the smell of YOUR Constitution going up in flames, Mr. and Mrs. America."

"So far this year, the Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund has requested the support of GOA's e-mail members in six races. All of the candidates were pro-gun challengers for the seat they were seeking. Not one of them was an incumbent."

"Well, there is great news to report: FOUR OF THE SIX RACES THIS YEAR HAVE ENDED VICTORIOUSLY FOR GUN OWNERS!!!"

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
You must understand, therefore, that there are two ways of fighting: by law or by force. The first way is natural to men, and the second to beasts. But as the first way often proves inadequate one must have recourse to the second. Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince."
