Laura Leigh Thompson was among a group of dozens of realtors who met with the Sheriff this week. Thompson works for Pritchett-Moore Real Estate. When it comes to her personal safety, Thompson doesnt take chances. Since she shows homes to clients alone, she carries a pistol and a can of pepper spray in her purse.

Carrying a firearm is simply for my protection and it makes me feel confident that if I cant get away, then I will be able to do something about it, Thompson said.

The National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund first endorsed Republican Ed Gillespie on August 1. The gun rights group said Gillespie would end current Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe's pursuit of new gun-control measures.

U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., is pushing to export Californias gun control to the rest of the nation. And she is doing it via her efforts to renew the failed federal assault weapons ban.

The ban, which was in place from 1994 to 2004, correlated with lower crime, yet even the The New York Times admitted that there is no evidence that the drop in crime was a result of the assault weapons ban (and in fact, crime continued to drop long after the ban was allowed to expire.) Rather, the Times suggested that the ban was an extension of the assault weapon myth propagated by Democrats in the 1990s; a time when they were desperate to reduce the gun crime that was raging out of control.

The Court found that magazines are arms for the purposes of the Second Amendment. It also found that the unlawful deprivation of those arms would be an irreparable harm, the preliminary injunction would preserve the status quo and it always is in the public interest to prevent the violation of an individuals constitutional rights. As such a preliminary injunction was the appropriate remedy.

In the 66 page opinion, that I know you wont read but it is worth your time, the judge waded through a variety of issues that were before the court. For the purposes of our discussion, well keep it related to the Second Amendment claim.

In 1980, the nation's gun-violence epidemic hit close to home for Rolling Stone when John Lennon was gunned down by Mark David Chapman. For the magazine's founder, the slaying in New York sparked a now-four-decade commitment on the gun issue. "It all started with Lennon," says Jann S. Wenner.

The American Civil Liberties Union will no longer defend hate groups seeking to march with firearms, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, a policy change that comes on the heels of protests by white nationalists and counter-protesters at the weekend in Virginia.

The newspaper quoted the ACLU's executive director as saying in an interview that, after violence during the Charlottesville protests, judges, police chiefs and legal groups would be required to "look at the facts of any white-supremacy protests with a much finer comb."

A community college instructor in Texas recently started off the academic year by wearing a bulletproof vest and army helmet to class. He did this to protest a law that, starting this August, authorizes individuals to carry concealed handguns at public community colleges in Texas. In 2016, the same law had already allowed guns at four-year institutions.

Texas and 10 other states now have laws permitting concealed carry of guns at colleges and universities. So far in 2017, campus carry bills have been introduced in at least 16 other states.

In every field of endeavor, its always the little things that matter; little details, little parts or little accessories.

Maybe thats why the Tap Cover from Clark Tactical Solutions got my attention. This little add-on might strike somebody as a real nothing because it is literally no more than a small square of high-grade polymer about the size of a 25-cent piece. But sit down for a minute and see what it does, and you just might hear yourself saying, Hmmm. Wish Id have thought of that.

On Thursday, the Arizona Supreme Court unanimously held that the state was within its authority to prohibit cities and counties from routinely destroying firearms obtained through forfeiture or as unclaimed property. State law holds that political subdivisions must instead (subject to certain exceptions) recirculate the firearms through legitimate channels of commerce, just as they do with other types of valuable property. The case represents the latest battle in an effort dating back nearly two decades to prevent anti-gun localities from undermining the pro-gun policies of the state legislature.

I support our First Amendment rights and I support our Second Amendment rights, but what I saw on TV in Charlottesville failed even the simplest of common sense tests. Rally members adorned with military helmets, AR-15s at low ready, pistols in tactical holsters vests, and all the accessories that go with a tactical outfit is completely absurd. They were not just going to protest the removal of a statue, they were ready and looking for a gun fight.

Ed.: Both sides, plus neutral third parties, lawfully and safely bore arms as protected by the 2A.

But six years ago, while listening to a public radio story, Yule heard about a way he could tackle a familiar problem the high rates of suicide in rural areas like some nearby in his state through the New Hampshire Firearms Safety Coalition.

Actress: ACLU The NRA Of Free Speech

It wishes. The ACLU came under attack over the last twenty-four hours from two sources that normally offers unqualified support for their cause. From Hollywood, actress and activist Aunjanue Ellis (Men of Honor, Ray) declared that the ACLU had become the NRA of free speech for its support of First Amendment rights even for extremists. Its defense of such for neo-Nazis, Ellis writes at HuffPost, has caused her to rethink her support for the civil-rights organization:

Ed.: I know we all hate that the ACLU skips 2 when counting to 10, but a no-compromise defense of the 1A is vital to the 2A, as well as every other freedom we enjoy.

While conservatives across the country scrambled to distance themselves from President Donald Trumps disastrous response to events in Charlottesville this week, one organization stood squarely by his side. The National Rifle Association apparently has no problem with the president equating leftist radicals with white supremacists.

Last week's earnings report from Sturm, Ruger (NYSE: RGR) could be the epitome of the saying, "be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it."

While the gun manufacturer never advocated voting for or against any particular candidate last year, Ruger pledged to donate $2 from every gun sale it made before Election Day to the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, as well as making a matching contribution to the gun-rights group up to a total of $5 million. Not surprisingly, the NRA had endorsed Donald Trump's candidacy.

Next week as classes begin, Northwood Kensett secondary principal Keith Fritz will include something in his fall assembly speech thats not heard often in Iowa schools.

I mention, in addition to we have the right to search your lockers, guys, were going to have a great year this year, he says. "Those of you who hunt, federal firearms regulations prohibit you from having those on campus. And thats all it takes, they just comply.

Fall semester students are moving into dorm rooms at the University of Kansas for the first time since a law allowing people to conceal and carry guns on campus went into effect in July.

Lawmakers who support this act believe someone with a gun could stop an active shooter or derail a potential violent situation.

41 Action News caught up with some students at KU's dorms as they moved in.
