The latest gun control legislation, Senate Bill 918 by Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-La Caada Flintridge), appeared to be dead as it was placed on the suspense file in the Assembly Appropriations Committee August 3rd until yesterday when it moved out with 32 pages of 185 new amendments.

The Supreme Court issued a critical decision in June striking down a New York gun law that puts unconstitutional restrictions on concealed carry of a gun out in public. And because this is the law of the land, California with its extremely restrictive gun laws was put on notice.

On behalf of Democratic California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Senate Bill 918 was introduced in February in anticipation of the Supreme Court decision.

Democrats Dont Care Whether Banning Assault Weapons Is Constitutional

A week before the House of Representatives approved a ban on assault weapons, a federal judge in Denver explained why such laws are unlikely to pass constitutional muster.

House Democrats either were not paying attention or did not care because they view the Second Amendment as an outmoded provision that imposes no meaningful limits on gun control.

Unfortunately for them, the Supreme Court has repeatedly held otherwise, ruling that the government may not prohibit law-abiding Americans from keeping handguns at home or carrying them in public for self-defense.

Just 24-hours after unleashing a firestorm of criticism from police officers and law enforcement groups, the agency which manages the New York State Fair has walked back a policy which would have banned off-duty police officers from carrying firearms at the annual event, according to a department spokesperson, The Epoch Times reports.

The fairs long-standing rules of conduct state that firearms are prohibited on the Fairgrounds, with the exception of law enforcement and participation in the gun show, an Aug. 10 email from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSDAM) read.

Talk about going to The Black Parade. And while youd think that most people would go to a concert for, you know, rest and relaxation, the more fear-riddled among us see danger and the need to protect even during moments of leisure.

If Im going somewhere in a big crowd, I want to be able to carry my firearm, said Jerry Henry, executive director of Georgia Second Amendment. I will assure you there will be criminals out there.

I also think someone bringing an AR-15 to a music festival is a red flag. My first and only thought would be Its Not a Fashion Statement, Its a Deathwish Id be asking for a refund and a Zoom link to the Encore in a heartbeat.

For a long time in New York State, it was very difficult to obtain a concealed carry gun permit. I can remember my dad, a retired NYPD Lieutenant, talk about how tough it was and how that was a GOOD thing, and a way to protect the public, and law enforcement, from armed and dangerous persons.

In June, the United State Supreme Court overturned New York States conceal carry permit law, opening up the possibility of thousands of New Yorkers applying to their local county clerks for a license to carry a concealed weapon.

Governor Kathy Hochul and State legislators went back to Albany and passed a new set of gun laws, which included a new concealed weapon license law, all set to begin September 1.

Federal law makes recreational marijuana a complicated ask in Pennsylvania

Though Pennsylvania's medical marijuana program has existed since 2016, its operation depends ... on federal law enforcement declining to prosecute users.

One issue that complicates legalization relates to the Second Amendment. The Department of Justice continues to argue in federal court that medical marijuana patients should be barred from owning guns because it is "dangerous to trust regular marijuana users to exercise sound judgment," as a recent filing in Florida demonstrated.

Gun owners who use marijuana, for medical or recreational purposes, are liable to federal prosecution. As the law stands, possessing a medical marijuana card makes it unlawful for Pennsylvanians to apply for a license-to-carry firearm.

WY: Does Wyoming want Liz Cheney to hang onto her House seat?

Perhaps no midterm primary is getting more attention than that of Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, whose race next week could be the highest-profile test yet of the voter backlash -- or lack thereof -- to a Republican participating on the House Jan. 6 committee and whether anti-Trump conservatives have a path forward within their own party.

On Tuesday, residents of the least populous state in the nation will hand down their answer. As it stands, Cheney's chances for reelection are slim: Her opponent, Wyoming attorney Harriet Hageman, bests her in past head-to-head polling match-ups, according to FiveThirtyEight, helped in part by a blessing from former President Donald Trump.

TX: 'Texas, we can do Beto: ORourke campaign swing focuses on rural voters

Abbott and his campaign team maintain that ORourkes vision does not reflect the values of the majority of Texans, particularly when it comes to guns. Much of the Abbott campaigns messaging on his opponent has been devoted to reminding voters of remarks O'Rourke made during his short-lived presidential campaign, when he vowed to take away AR-15 rifles during a debate.

ORourkes position on guns has become more nuanced in the intervening years instead of an outright prohibition, he now favors raising the minimum age to purchase assault rifles from 18 to 21, adopting red flag laws and establishing universal background checks but his passion on the issue has not dwindled.

First thing, right off the bat, lets make sure were clear: If you are able, carry the most powerful handgun you can shoot well. Ideally, that will be something in a centerfire caliber suitable for self-defense, whether that be 9 mm, .38 Spl., .45 ACP, etc. For some people, though, whether it has to do with limited hand strength, severe aversion to recoil or other reasons, a .22 LR is the most they are comfortable handling. For that select group, though, the time has never been better.

The photograph, posted on Thursday, shows Rittenhouse grinning next to an unnamed Thrall officer in front of a vehicle.

Make those stops, you never know who you might meet, the post reads. Today it was Kyle Rittenhouse, welcome to Texas.

About six hours later, the post was edited by the Central Texas police department after intense backlash.

The edited post read: I must have missed something, I believe that this young man was arrested, charged, indicted and then found not guilty by a jury of his peers. Is this not how our country works anymore? The hate in these comments is terrible, if you have information that is contrary to that I would honestly love to hear it.

This week, the Explanatory Statement Committee approved Ballot Measure 114s (formerly IP 17) summary that will appear in the voter pamphlet. The Explanatory Statement is supposed to be an impartial, simple, and understandable statement that explains the ballot measure. However, the approved Explanatory Statement is misleading, complicated, and difficult to comprehend. To properly inform the voters of Oregon about the actual effects of Ballot Measure 114, the NRA has provided an explanation of the actual effects of the measure:

Ballot Measure 114 will, 1) require a permit to purchase a firearm, 2) create a government registry, and 3) ban any magazine over 10 rounds:

That is, the FBI reported that 4.4% of active shooter incidents were thwarted by armed citizens, while the CPRC found 14.6%.

... one, misclassified shootings; and two, overlooked incidents. Regarding the former, the CPRC determined that the FBI reports had misclassified five shootings: In two incidents the Bureau notes in its detailed write-up that citizens possessing valid firearms permits confronted the shooters and caused them to flee the scene. However, these cases were not listed as being stopped by armed citizens because the attackers were later apprehended by police. In two other incidents the FBI misidentified armed civilians as armed security personnel. In one incident, the FBI simply failed to mention the citizen engagement...

I had already been shaken out of complacency by the May 24 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. But toward what?

Discussions about gun safety so often turn into arguments over legislative and regulatory measures, emphasizing our differences over how to balance personal freedoms and collective responsibilities instead of our shared interest in healthy communities.

Outside of the political arena, how can we come together to protect our kids and neighbors from gun violence?
