"Sadly, modern history is full of instances where the anti-gun left tries to capitalize on tragedy and fear to push their agenda. Sometimes the push is immediate, while at other times they lay in wait gathering strength until an opportune time, like the evil Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter novels."

"Those who support the Bill of Rights need to be aware of these tactics so we can fight to protect our civil liberties when terrible events unfold."

"One such event happened on March 30, 1981." ...

"... On March 30, 1981, President Reagan gave a lunchtime speech ... As he was leaving, he stopped beside the open door of his limousine to wave to the friendly crowd. Suddenly, as the president was waving, gunshots rang out. ..."

"When criminals need guns, they have plenty of options in a country with nearly 100,000 licensed gun stores. But drug dealers and other crooks don't shop just anywhere. They have their favorites." ...

"In fact, government figures show that an extremely small number of gun shops account for a spectacularly large number of weapons used in crimes." ...

"But there are signs that scrutiny is on the rise."

"Over the past three years, ATF agents have cracked down on some of the stores most notorious for selling large numbers of weapons used in street crime. In 2005 and 2006, some 220 firearms dealers had their licenses revoked 20 more than in the previous eight years combined." ...

Submitter's Note: And how many of those revocations were due to actual criminal activity and not paperwork errors?

"Gun free school zones have proven to be a dangerous delusion that has resulted in people being forced to be victims."

"The only people guaranteed to be safe in gun free zones are criminals. They can count on the law-abiding being disarmed. In reality, gun free zones are nothing more than criminal safe zones."

"Criminals have proven that they not only disrespect laws, they are willing and able to break them. The island nation of Great Britain has banned guns. In 1997 they confiscated virtually all legal guns. Yet today, the police there estimate that England has twice the number of guns in the country -- illegally. The press in Manchester refer to their city as 'Gunchester.'" ...

"Continuing to strike fear into the hearts of, well, everyone, Taser has released an electrified round that works with any 12-gauge shotgun. The Wireless eXtended Range Electronic Projectile, or XREP, is a fin-stabilized, self-contained round with no wires leading back to the gun and a maximum range of 100 ft. Previous Tasers ... are only useful within around 30 ft."

"The XREP punctures the target with multiple probes, and then unspools to dangle from the unfortunate belligerent's body, all the while applying Taser's infamous rapid-fire electrical pulses. As an added bonus, any helpful passerby trying to yank the XREP out of the target before the 20-second discharge cycle is finished will also get zapped ..." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A state may not impose a charge for the enjoyment of a right granted by the federal constitution... The power to impose a license tax on the exercise of these freedoms is indeed as potent as the power of censorship which this Court has repeatedly struck down... a person cannot be compelled 'to purchase, through a license fee or a license tax, the privilege freely granted by the constitution.' MURDOCK V.
