"A 4-year-old crackdown on the illegal global trade in small arms has had little impact on the uncontrolled availability of pistols, rifles and machine guns in many parts of the world, a coalition of arms control groups reported on Tuesday."
"While world governments have now had the time to meet the legal, procedural and program obligations set out in a 2001 U.N. action plan on small arms, 'we are very disappointed by how little has been achieved,' said Paul Eavis of London-based Safer World." |

"One of those things many Americans take for granted is the Constitution and all the personal freedoms it protects. As a part-time writer and a person rarely shy to express an opinion, the First Amendment and all it guarantees is of course dear to my heart."
"Also important to me, though, is the Second Amendment that guarantees the right to bear arms. In plain language that means the law-abiding citizenry can own guns, much to the chagrin of liberal lawmakers like Ted Kennedy and Charles Schumer." |

"For all the blathering, spite, and animosity toward guns by liberal weenies in the Democratic Party, intelligent people realize that normal folks face threatening scenarios just like this all the time. Unfortunately, many states have such strict gun control laws that a man like Gayle Martin would be dead today if he lived in the wrong place. Thankfully, Mr. Martin has been around the block long enough to know that whatever strength age takes away, Mr. 357 Magnum can easily compensate for."
"This, Dianne Feinstein, is why Americans own guns. And it is precisely why we will not let liberal, anti-gun hacks like Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and Chuck Schumer take them away." |

"With yesterday's city council vote, the City of Columbus, Ohio joins states and local communities across the nation in banning assault weapons, and becomes the first major U.S. city to adopt a ban since the federal law expired last September."
"Sue Ann Schiff, Executive Director of Legal Community Against Violence (LCAV), which provided legal expertise to the City of Columbus, stated: 'We applaud the leadership of the Columbus city council in acting to ban these deadly weapons. Assault weapons are designed to kill humans quickly and efficiently. The Columbus ordinance is directed to military-style weapons designed for rapid spray firing, not to standard sporting firearms.'" |

"Gun buy-back programs have their place
No one should be under the illusion that a gun buy-back program in West Palm Beach will end the city's murder spree or significantly reduce crime.
"The program, however, did result in the collection of 450 firearms, some dating back to World War II. That means there are 450 fewer weapons that could be stolen and used in a crime, or that might fall into the hands of children, causing a senseless injury or death." |
