"As always, gun control proponents say they merely want 'reasonable' gun control laws. Yet, when listing the actual laws they favor, they go well beyond what most people would possibly consider 'reasonable.' Just look at the gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C. that local politicians and gun control organizations ... have fought to protect."
"Last Friday ... Chicago enacted strict new gun control laws. These new restrictions surely do not seem 'reasonable' but rather intended to make life as difficult as possible for those who legally want to own a gun. ..." ... |

"Iowa is one of the relatively few states where local police still have wide discretion to decide who is allowed to carry a concealed weapon in public. In a vivid demonstration that such policies can have First as well as Second Amendment implications, a federal judge this week ruled that Osceola County Sheriff Douglas Weber violated a man's right to freedom of speech by denying him a carry permit based on his political activism. Paul Dorr, well known locally for demonstrating at abortion clinics and agitating against government spending, applied for a permit because he carries large amounts of cash as part of a balloon-selling business. ... "With separate majorities rejecting each of McDonald's arguments for applying the Second Amendment to Chicago, it would seem that McDonald should have lost. However, the Court does not make its decisions based upon the preceding logic. Although the justices' written opinions explain the rationale of the authors, or those who join them, the Court as a whole decides the case based instead on the votes of individual justices on the ultimate choice of whether to affirm or reverse. In McDonald, five justices voted to apply the Second Amendment to Chicago, but those justices divided over two opposite and inconsistent rationales." ... |

"I just purchased my very first gun, a lovely 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. This may concern some of you. There is nothing worse than a eeeevil right-wing extremist who is armed."
"I'm not a gun-type person, never even fired one. I held one once as a kid; my uncle had a pistol that my mom hated. That moment was seminal. I never forgot what it felt like, cold and heavy. It was a dull gray color, and smelled of oil and gunpowder. He had a peculiar smirk as he handed it to me, a smile that seemed to say, 'Here, take it kid, be a man.'"
"Now I am 51 years old. I have lived in Montana nearly 30 years. ... somehow it took me this long to embrace this rite of passage toward becoming a real Montanan, dare I say, a real man." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771 |
