The issue of state delays in conducting background checks for local pistol permits has not been resolved some two months after it was first brought to light in the region. Area county court judges, sheriffs and county clerks, who process pistol permits, have been faced with delays because the state Department of Mental Hygiene lost the person who processed those background checks through retirement.

And for those who say the suspicion that Gunwalker being exploited to justify more power for ATF and impose more gun control on you and me is a baseless right wing conspiracy theory, just what the hell do you think every effort by the regressive left to do just that, right in front of our eyesfrom the gungrabber groups to the oath-breaking political whores to the 'Authorized Journalist' Fourth Estate/Fifth Columnhas been about? Just what the hell do you think tomorrow is going to be about?"

"PARIS (AP) - France sent weapons this month to Libyan civilians under siege by Moammar Gadhafi's forces...
The deliveries of guns, rocket-propelled grenades and munitions took place in early June in the western Nafusa mountains, when Gadhafi forces had encircled civilians and his government refused a U.N request to allow in a humanitarian aid shipment, Col. Thierry Burkhard said." {emphasis added}

-----

Submitter's note: David Olofson had his life ruined for years because his rifle malfunctioned and some federal prosecutor convinced a jury of idiots that it was a "machine gun," and here France, with our approval, is handing them OUT. What? They're not doing background checks? Where is Lautenberg? Where's Brady?

Pennsylvania lawyers are mulling over the implications of a bill signed into law by Governor Tom Corbett. The "Castle Doctrine" bill expands a person's right to use deadly force to certain places outside their home, and no longer requires people to retreat as a way to avoid a lethal confrontation.

Attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. is satisfied with the change in the law.

"I always thought that jurors struggled with the concept that someone has a duty to retreat if possible to do safely," said Perri. "I mean that's an awfully confusing aspect of the previous statute."

Like many states, Maine depends on the FBI to conduct background checks of people who want to acquire firearms from the states federally licensed gun dealers.

And like many states, Maine is a slacker in supplying the records that the FBI depends on to run those checks.

Obama has stood by his man and claimed Attorney General Eric Holder didnt know what was going on with the ATF Fast and Furious gunwalking scheme.

Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson has agreed to provide testimony to Congress over the ATF Fast and Furious scheme that allowed guns to walk into the hands of the Mexican drug cartels.

Two of the ATF walked guns were found at the murder scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry south of Tucson.

Is Garry McCarthy Right About Gun Laws Being Racist?

McCarthy sure has a lot to say about guns and gun laws. Its just not clear what exactly it is that he was trying to say. Is he promoting gun control or does he believe that gun control, in itself, is racist? If its the latter, I happen to agree with him.

Since the days of slavery blacks in one way or another have been the subjects of restrictive gun laws. Both enslaved and free blacks were prohibited from possessing firearms, except under very restrictive conditions. Gun restrictions for blacks gained traction after Nat Turners Rebellion in 1831, a revolt that caused the south to become increasingly irrational in its fears.

6th Circuit Says Congress Can Make You Buy Stuff

Hey, lets try modifying that 6th Circuit decision a little, and see what we get!

The activity of foregoing self-defense and attempting to cover the cost of personal protection needs by relying entirely upon the police is no less economic than the activity of purchasing a firearm. Thus, the distribution of guns, and specifically the practice of refusing to purchase a firearm for self-defense, is economic activity.

Presto: mandatory gun ownership! Sweet! Its about time Congress acted to reduce the huge amount of money states are obliged to spend on detectives, paramedics, and morgue technicians by compelling every American to buy a firearm and obtain training in self-defense.

The King County Prosecutors Office revealed Wednesday that it won't file criminal charges against Olenthis Woods in the shooting death of Shennon Shelton and the wounding of his brother, Gaston Shelton, May 1 outside of an apartment complex in Auburn.

According to the King County Prosecutors Office, the police investigation determined that Woods acted in defense of himself and others.

"We understand that the loss of Mr. Shelton's life is truly tragic for his family and friends," the prosecutor's office said in a press release. "However, the evidence in this case dictates that criminal charges are not warranted."

An Indiana legislative committee has begun a formal review of a recent state Supreme Court ruling that says homeowners should not resist police who illegally enter their homes.

The panel is chaired by Republican state Senator Brent Steele, who says lawmakers need to clarify self-defense and search-and-seizure laws.

I see this as two trains headed toward each other on the same track. Theres going to be a collision someday and somebodys going to get hurt, Steele said.

After the hearing, Zook said prosecutors went to the grand jury for a "community determination" on a case that involved a self-defense claim. The grand jury rendered its judgment after a two-day review of evidence, effectively ending the prosecution.

We respect the finding of the grand jury, Zook said.

Yi was arrested Dec. 3 on suspicion of attempted murder. Although charges are generally filed in court within 10 days of an arrest, prosecutors in this case asked a judge for more time so that the grand jury could be convened.

Crowder ordered that Yi's $250,000 bond be returned.

MD: The danger of guns in the home

Most people who buy guns for protection sincerely believe that owning a gun will make them safer. Yet that expectation couldn't be further from the truth. The reality is that having a gun in the house makes the owner far more likely to become a victim of a gun crime or to have a family member victimized than to use it successfully in self-defense. Guns are also the leading method of suicide among all age groups.

It's estimated that some 300 children die as a result of firearm-related accidents every year, as well as hundreds of adults. Maryland law prohibits keeping loaded weapons where children can get at them, and it also requires internal trigger locks to secure handguns.

This is why the Second Amendment is so important, particularly for women. In fact, the Second Amendment should really be the first banner of the so-called feminists, because it is a true empowerment to be able to defend yourself. From the Boot.com comes the story of how country star Craig Morgan's foresight in training his daughter how to responsibly use firearms helped perhaps save her life:

...

"My daughter was smart enough to go in her bedroom and lock herself up, and she had a pistol, so she was waiting if he came through. Thank goodness he didn't, because she would have had to have shot him...."

Over 600 mayors of cities of every size have launched a national cable TV campaign to urge the passage of Fix Gun Checks Act of 2011 and the Denying Firearms to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2011 to close the gun show loophole. Criminals already know how to take advantage of gaps in our gun laws, and now Al Qaeda knows, too, said New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. The Mayor noted that Americans, including NRA members, overwhelmingly support stronger laws to keep guns away from terrorists and other dangerous peopleWeak gun laws arent just a crime problem, theyre a national security threat.

--Terrorists around the world have never lacked for firepower, no matter how harsh the laws in the countries theyve attacked. Indias strict laws, for example, failed to stop the deadly attack on Mumbai.
--Even if private gun sales in the U.S. were banned, terrorists like common domestic criminals could simply use straw purchasers who can pass background checks, or could rely on stolen guns and other black market sources.
--Legislation to arbitrarily deny sales to persons on the terrorist watchlist would be useless against Gadahns target audience of lone wolf attackers with no previous ties to terrorist organizations.
--Fully automatic assault weapons cannot be purchased over the counter.

'Fast and Furious' sparks new gun control debates

The tainted "Operation Fast and Furious" has dealt the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms its worst blow since the agency's botched 1993 raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco that left four ATF agents dead.

With federal agents testifying against their commanders, members of Congress calling for the top man's ouster and accusations that ATF is fudging its gun smuggling numbers, the political fallout itself has become fast and furious.

The operation, conducted jointly with agents from ATF, FBI, DEA and other agencies was aimed at reaching beyond the low-level "straw purchasers" of weapons and building a complex case against Mexican traffickers and their weapons brokers.

CCRKBA Says Cummings Gun Forum A Smokescreen To Shift ATF Blame To US Gun Owners

This isnt a forum, said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. Its a Capitol Hill kangaroo court with the singular goal of deflecting public attention away from the Justice Departments horrible mishandling of a gunrunning sting that has flooded Mexico with guns. Operation Fast and Furious is a product of the Obama administration, and Cummings is running interference for the White House and Attorney General Eric Holder.

The real culprits here are the ATF officials and people in the Justice Department who either approved this operation or knew about it and allowed it to happen, and everybody knows it, he continued.

Wyoming will soon become the fourth state in the nation to allow residents to carry a concealed firearm without a license or permit.

A law effective Friday, July 1, will authorize permitted Wyoming residents 21 years of age or older to carry a firearm without obtaining a permit or taking a handgun safety course.

This constitutional carry bill was one of the most controversial ideas the Wyoming State Legislature discussed during its session earlier this year.

New Albany library leaders are criticizing a new gun-carry bill which takes effect Friday, saying it is dangerous.

Staring July 1st, people with concealed carry permits can bring guns inside as they check out a book. Indiana State Senator Ron Grooms, a Republican from Jeffersonville, explains, "The reason the bill was passed was to keep New Albany from having different regulations than Jeffersonville." Senate Bill 292 creates uniform gun carry rules across the entire state.
