"Newly-introduced legislation that would repeal prohibition of handgun ownership by citizens in Washington, D.C. is 'long overdue,' the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."

Animal welfare groups a criticizing proposed legislation that would allow self-defense in dog attacks.
The groups contend House Bill 2840 might increase the opportunity for animal abuse.
A Senate committee approved the bill Thursday, acting with the support of utility employees who say they often encounter dangerous dogs on the job.
Under the proposal, a person attacked by a dog can use any means to defend himself. Animal groups worry the provision could be used to defend animal abuse cases.
"While we certainly understand the need to prevent attacks on humans by dogs running loose, this bill as written is extremely overreaching and could make innocent dogs vulnerable to abuse," said Laural Powell, a representative for the Texas Animal Control Association. |
