Gun ownership by women has skyrocketed in recent years, and a local firearms instructor wants to see more ladies packing heat.

Rick Ector, owner of Legally Armed in Detroit, has provided free training for hundreds of Metro Detroit women over the past six years. He expects a record number of people to sign up for this years training on May 20.

Any time anyone is victimized, especially the most vulnerable people senior citizens and women the natural response from the victims is, they need to take a more active role to protect themselves, Ector said. A firearm is the way to do that, if theres appropriate training.

Ector provides the free class Top Gun Shooting Sports in Taylor.

The Executive Director of the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, released the following statement on Friday in reaction to Gov. Mary Fallins veto of Senate Bill 1212:

Gov. Fallin vetoed this important piece of self-defense legislation despite the state legislatures overwhelming approval of the bill and her commitment to NRA members to support constitutional carry when she ran for reelection. Make no mistake, this temporary setback will be rectified when Oklahoma residents elect a new, and genuinely pro-Second Amendment governor.

That has yet to be determined. Also to be determined, whether an Orlando judge's ruling that the new law is retroactive will stand.

Another Florida Judge ruled the Stand Your Ground law is not retroactive.

It appears this decision will ultimately be left to the Florida Supreme Court to decide.

But if it does stand, that gives Reeves gets another chance with better odds of going free.

"It makes it much easier now for a defendant to assert Stand Your Ground because it's up to the state of Florida to prove that he didn't have the right to defend himself. If the state doesn't meet their burden, Curtis Reeves walks free," said Rickman.

A hunter and taxidermist, Steve Bradbury is a proud gun owner who thought about getting a license to carry a handgun but never considered it a priority.

That changed after Bradbury, a San Antonio firefighter, was driving past First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs the day of the Nov. 5 massacre that killed 26 people and stopped to help first responders take care of the victims. After that, he had a different mindset: I said, All right, thats it, Im getting it.

Seven people were found dead on a rural property in Western Australia on Friday, including a mother and her four children.

It is the worst mass shooting in the country since 1996, when strict gun control measures were adopted following a shooting in which a gunman killed 35 people with a semi-automatic rifle in Port Arthur, Tasmania.

According to The Guardian, Fridays shooting appears to have been a murder-suicide. While police are not releasing the names of the victims until they have notified the next of kin, local news media has identified a mother and her four children as among the dead. The mother reportedly wrote on Facebook about being stalked by her ex last month.

The National Rifle Association sued New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Friday for what it called a political blacklisting campaign that targeted banks and insurers that work with the gun-lobbying group.

Simply put, defendants made it clear to banks and insurers that it is bad business in New York to do business with the NRA, the 33-page complaint states.

Represented by Manhattan attorney William Brewer III, the NRA brought its suit against Cuomo and the state Department of Financial Services in the Northern District of New York.

On May 8th, the NRA filed comments with the Oregon Secretary of State opposing the misleading and inadequate ballot title prepared by the state Attorney General for Initiative Petition 43. The Attorney General will now have until May 23rd to review comments and certify a final ballot title for IP 43, which seeks to ban commonly owned semi-automatic firearms and standard capacity magazines.

Over 1000 pages of comments were received by the Oregon Secretary of State in opposition to the proposed ballot title. Thank you to all Second Amendment supporters that submitted written comments on IP43. The first known black identity extremist jailed after making pro-black and anti-police brutality Facebook posts has spoken out following his release from jail.

In an interview with The Guardian, activist Rakem Balogun discussed the ways in which the governments surveillance of his political activity were a form of tyranny.

Balogun, who co-founded the revolutionary black power group Guerilla Mainframe and Huey P. Newtown Gun Club that promotes black gun ownership, was arrested in the middle of the night by the FBI in December 2017 after being surveilled for more than two years for what the government considered anti-police sentiments.

This industry pressure on Dicks comes at a sensitive time for the company. Its shares took a steep 6.3% dive in March, amid what analysts described as a downbeat outlook. Indeed, its own CEO Edward Stack admitted his new investment in gun control is not going to be positive from a traffic standpoint and a sales standpoint.

How that assessment squares with his own obligations to the company and its shareholders is unclear. Profits, after all, are where the rubber meets the road in any business enterprise.

Two: The Democratic surge this year towards a living Constitution is probably an artifact of the post-Parkland push for gun control. There have been mass shootings in the past but the string of horrors that began last fall and ran through February was an endless nightmare Vegas, Sutherland Springs, Stoneman Douglas High. A few months before Vegas, a gunman nearly massacred a group of Republican congressmen on a baseball field. The Second Amendment has been a hot topic for the worst possible reasons for almost a year. And because it addresses a technology thats evolved a ton since the time the amendment was enacted, its also invariably a prime target in the originalism versus living Constitution debate.

Gunfire in London is no longer uncommon, even though guns are technically illegal here!

Knife attacks are also a plague, and ever associated with deadly gang warfare. Most gangs here are composed of immigrants, almost all illegal, and theyre constantly engaged in lethal territorial disputes.

As a result, Londons rate of violent crime is soaring, now exceeding even NYCs (where there are at least a few legal guns)!

A Miami appeals court says Florida's broadened self-defense law is constitutional but that it does not apply to cases that happened before the law went into effect.
The Third District Court of Appeal ruling comes one week after a sister court in Tampa ruled the law was indeed "retroactive" which means the Florida Supreme Court will ultimately decide which court is right.

Ahmed D. Faheem, M.D. of Appalachian Psychiatric Services says that only a small proportion of people who have psychiatric conditions or are seeking psychiatric help have the tendency to be violent. Yet, he stresses that anyone in possession of a firearm needs to have the inhibition on whether or not to pull the trigger, even if they have a mental condition.

"You have to have the capacity and capability to understand and handle that responsibility," Faheem said. "When your inhibitions are down, we need those controls from the brain to think and to do what we are expected to do in a social way."

An Oak Island man won't face charges in connection with a deadly shooting last year after the District Attorney's Office determined the shooting was justified.

Michael Christopher Auvil, 36, was fatally shot by Thomas Everette Craddock at the Driftwood Motel on Ocean Drive in Oak Island on July 22, 2017. Prosecutors ruled that Craddock was justified in using deadly force during the incident due to Auvil's conduct.

Police say the incident started when the armed guard left his post at the Movies 8 to go to the apartments, where he tried to contact a woman who lives there.

"The female either had a boyfriend or a friend there," APD Spokesperson Simon Drobik said. "The security guard actually became belligerent and jumped a fence, smashed a back window to the apartment and the homeowner inside was in fear for his life."

Police say the man inside the apartment felt threatened and opened fire in self-defense. The security guard returned fire before he was shot in the leg; no one inside the apartment was hurt during the shootout.

A Toledo man convicted of voluntary manslaughter last year cannot be tried a second time because of double jeopardy protections, Ohio's 6th District Court of Appeals ruled on Friday.

The ruling in effect acquits Ramiro Ramirez, 25, of voluntary manslaughter for the April 16, 2016, death of Dale Delauter, 61, who was shot after he allegedly pointed a gun at Mr. Ramirez and his friends. Mr. Ramirez, who had a concealed-carry permit, contended he fired in self-defense.

On May 5th, 175 pro-Second Amendment patriots packed a meeting room in Dallass Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to learn what more they can do to be a force multiplier in this years elections, and to learn from the next generation of Second Amendment leaders on how to further engage college and high school students in our efforts.

Attendees were welcomed by James Dickey, Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, who was followed by Florida State Representative Cord Byrd. Rep. Byrd gave a chilling account of the political climate in Tallahassee that ultimately led to the passage of a package of gun control laws. Both gentlemen stressed the need for enhanced involvement in the 2018 elections by NRA members and gun owners.

The headline of the USA Today op-ed said it all. Anti-gun Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) last week advocated for legislation to ban an as-yet undetermined class of semi-automatic firearms and to go after resisters who refuse to relinquish their lawfully-acquired firearms. Lest anyone mistake his intentions, Swalwell followed up with a lengthy NBC News interview this week in which he made clear that his own proposal is a departure from prior gun bans that allowed those who obtained the firearms when they were lawful to keep them. Swalwell said that after thinking about the different ways to address it I concluded the only way to do this is to get those weapons out of our communities.

Feeling frustrated by the last round of student walkouts, Nikolai Janchik and Andrew Stutesman set out to organize their own effort at their St. Charles high school.

The seniors helped arrange for St. Charles North High School to participate in a nationwide walkout May 2 in support of Second Amendment rights, passing out T-shirts bearing the slogan Stand for the second the name of the national movement and stickers reading Dont tread on me, stand for the second STN, they said.

An estimated 200 of their classmates took part.
