"Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?"

"It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States who is between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this Act unless exempted under the provisions of this Act."

-------
Our exalted leaders have decided that their assaults to control free speech, disarm the population, to deny privacy and due process have been well received.

Now they are attempting to force free Americans to enforce their failed foreign policies by implementing involuntary servitude.

Presidential candidate Aaron Russo is openly campaigning against the draft and has initiated a petition drive in opposition to this insane idea.

"On Mothers' Day, May 9, the Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) will be standing up for the basic human right of self-defense for women and others."

"The group reports 'the so-called 'Million' Mom March (MMM), an anti-gun group, will be holding a rally in Washington, D.C., at the same time.' "

"A spokesperson said 'Unbelievably, the extremist MMM is asking Congress to renew and strengthen the so-called 'Assault Weapons Ban' -- a law that even the Centers for Disease Control admits has had no effect on crime. The gun-grabbers are also shooting to reinstate the 5-day Brady waiting period for all gun purchases, which has proven itself to be utterly worthless since its inception.' "

"The 1994 law bans 19 models of military style semiautomatic weapons, including the Uzi, AK-47 and TEC-9, which can fire bullets as fast as the user can pull the trigger. Also banned are ammunition clips that can hold more than 10 rounds. The law also attempted in vain to ban 'copycat' guns by defining the characteristics of an assault weapon."

"Gun control advocates want the ban renewed. They want to toughen it by requiring instant background checks for buyers at gun shows, closing the 'gun show loophole,' and banning the importation of high-capacity ammunition clips that can hold as many as 150 rounds."

"They are now part of the Million Mom March, which has its latest signature event scheduled for this Mothers Day, May 9th. That's when organizers hope hundreds of thousands of women will converge on Washington to call for tighter gun control."

"Their top concern this year is the federal ban on assault weapons, which is scheduled to expire in September. Organizers say President Bush promised to renew it, but so far has done nothing."

"Every good police state needs plenty of police, so as the United States becomes more totalitarian it should be no surprise that the job of enforcing all the rules is becoming more lucrative."

"Lines are typically long when police agencies begin hiring, given salaries that can easily top $100,000 a year and retirement packages of 90 percent of final pay, or even more. Cities always are promising to spend more on 'public safety,' which means more cops, bigger salaries, more outrageous pensions, more high-powered weapons and other gee-whiz gadgets to subdue the population."

"The work isnt particularly hazardous, despite the claims to the contrary, and for some reason the populace still gives the police a great deal of respect, despite the never-ending examples of abusive police tactics, the bullying of police unions and the increasing tendency of cops to view their 'subjects' with hostility and disdain."

"A Jersey City man who said he was robbed at gunpoint Sunday returned to the scene of the crime later that day to look for clues, and found the handgun the woman trained on him during the robbery, he later told police."

"The 25-year-old man told police he was getting out of his car early Sunday morning when a man and woman approached him and demanded money and jewelry."

"After giving a statement to police, the man searched the area and found a .380 caliber pistol nearby, reports said. The man said he took the gun to a friend, who unloaded it and placed it on the ground before calling police, reports said."

-------
Maybe the cops were too busy arresting people for mere possession hollow-points to look for evidence in an armed robbery.

"So WHY are we writing a story about 75,000 accidental lawn mower injuries on a website that focuses on self-defense rights?"

"Because according to the CDC, less than 17,700 people received non-fatal injuries due to a firearms accident in 2001."

"Because when you add to that accidental number those injured intentionally, due to violent attack, the total number is still less than those injured by accident with lawn-mowers - 63,000."

"Because there is no Ohio Coalition Against Lawn Mowers. Because the Million Mom March isn't ambulance-chasing and holding press conferences every time someone is injured with their Lawn Boy."

"Because Bob Taft isn't dictating legislation that lawn mowers not be operated in the presence of children under 18."

The state has decided to retry former Chattanooga police officer Christopher Gaynor for the shooting death of a motorist in East Chattanooga.

The case was tried in February, but ended in a mistrial.

The former officer, 24, took the witness stand to say he acted in self defense when he saw John Eric Henderson reach inside the glove compartment of his vehicle that was parked on Newell Street. There was no weapon in the car.

Gaynor is charged with criminally negligent homicide.

He is appealing his dismissal from the police force. A hearing is to be held by the City Council after the criminal proceedings are over.

If there was no gun, how can it be self-defense? And most people, upon seeing an officer approach, reach into their glove compartment for license and registration.

A Davenport high school student was suspended for bringing a pellet gun to school.

Officials say it happened Tuesday, on the fifth anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings in Colorado.

Police say a school bus driver spotted the 16-year-old boy with a gun inside a car in the parking lot of West High. The boy was disarmed and taken into custody.

The teenager was suspended pending further disciplinary review and action.

School officials say the district's zero-tolerance policy on weapons doesn't differentiate between toy guns -- which a pellet gun is classified as -- and real guns.

"[The previous] Monday at the same store, two white men, also carrying a gun, fled when a panic alarm was set off."

"...'We are permitted to use or disclose your PHI [Protected Health Information] for the following purposes.' It then listed just under 20 reasons why 'The Pharmacy America Trusts' might entrust my Protected Health Information with other people."

"Research."

"Fundraising."

"The list went on."

"But then I stumbled upon the 'purpose' I liked best: 'We may release PHI about you to federal officials for intelligence, counterintelligence, protection to the President, and other national security activities authorized by law.' "

"Wait a minute. What?"

" 'Protection to the President'?"

"How, exactly, is my swollen Eustachian tube a threat to the President? How's it a threat to anything other than my ability to breathe like a human being?"

"This makes me wonder what other info the feds might need in their efforts to defend our democracy."

" 'None of us want to shoot anybody, but if we do get into a life-and-death situation, you want a round thats going to do the job...' said Hancock Police Chief Beaudoin."

The only time a police officer is going to use his handgun on a human is when his life is in danger, or when hes protecting the life of someone else. If you were in that situation yourself, youd want the best equipment you can have.

So how do you and the MSP feel about me having "the best equipment" for my own safety?

"The Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence is investigating Maj. Tebarura [who] allegedly tortured his escort Obedi Kiiza."

"Eyewitnesses say it all started when Tebarura travelled to Kampala and left his pistol in his house, which he occupies with a civilian relative."

"When Kiiza saw the pistol, he removed it saying civilians could not be trusted with firearms. He handed the pistol back to his boss when he returned."

"[A]n angry Tebarura accused Kiiza of insubordination for keeping his pistol. He called two regimental police soldiers and ordered them to administer 20 strokes of the cane on Kiiza."

"After the flogging, Tebarura tied Kiiza's legs on his pick-up and ordered the driver to speed off."

So only governments and their agents should be armed, right?

Second item

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Because of the violence that has occurred in schools in recent years, strict regulations have been put in place prohibiting the presence of weapons on school property. Even without these regulations, we would question the presence of guns in the classroom. However, they have not always been banned.

On March 12, 1892, Arthur Wolfe caused a disturbance in his English classroom at Central School when the 22-caliber pistol he carried in his pocket suddenly discharged. Remarkably, neither he nor anyone else was injured. The bullet traveled down his pants leg and lodged in his shoe. It was reported it was "common practice among the boys to carry revolvers to school."

So why no Columbine style shootings?

"Brian Kentwell says he has been left with no choice but to 'hammer' injured or dying animals as he patrols 75 kilometres of irrigation channels in the district."

"Mr Kentwell, who has been manager of the Marthaguy Irrigation Scheme for 15 years, said he was no longer permitted to use the 9mm Ruger he was specifically licensed to carry for the humane euthanasia of stock and native animals bogged in channels or injured when hit by vehicles."

"Just last week I had to put down a kangaroo that had two broken legs. It's not very pleasant at the best of times and doubly difficult without a firearm..."

"Gerardo Sandoval's brilliant answer to mayhem and murder in the Bayview is to suggest that gun shows be ended at the Cow Palace. Is he under the impression that gang members buy their weapons legally? No, Sandoval just thinks it is 'inappropriate and insulting...to sell guns so close to The City's center of gun violence.' I suppose the idea of doing something about the violence might have entered his mind, but apparently the double whammy of pandering to terror stricken residents and getting another legal business closed down, is much more appealing to his brand of empty political posturing."

"Utah Gov. Olene Walker should immediately request the resignations of the entire Board of Trustees at the University of Utah for their continued defiance of the Utah Legislature, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today." ...

"CCRKBA's call for the trustee ouster comes in the wake of published reports that the Board unanimously voted to continue its policy of prohibiting students, faculty and staff from being armed on campus, despite state laws that allow it. An assistant attorney general said the issue is whether the university has a constitutional right to enforce a policy that is contrary to state law."

"The owner of a San Leandro warehouse complex searched by federal agents seeking rocket launchers scoffed Saturday at the notion that he has any links to terrorism or illegal military weapons."

" 'I'm about as much threat to national security as a tired old dog,' said Harold Chapman, 75."

"The U.S. magistrate who signed the warrant told The Chronicle the search was for 'rockets that could be launched from military vehicles and (for) some M-16s.' "

"Chapman said several hundred searchers caused some $1 million damage to his warehouse complex."

"Chapman said they believe the investigation was initiated by a false tip from a man who had a personal beef with him. 'He was jealous because we were both seeing the same woman.' "

"The House on Wednesday voted to allow possession of guns in bars and restaurants if the bearers aren't drinking and if the establishments themselves don't post a ban."

"The House voted 32-17 along party lines for the Republican proposal, a start-over version of a bill (SB1210) that originally dealt with another subject."

"If passed on a formal vote by the House, the bill would return to the Senate for consideration. A similar proposal (HB2648) cleared the House last month but stalled in the Senate."

"Among the uncertainties surrounding the state's new concealed carry law is whether cities and other political subdivisions can prohibit weapons in public parks."

"City officials across the state say they would like to prohibit firearms in public areas for as far as the law will allow."

" 'It's just common sense when you're dealing with children that you don't want to play around with firearms in our public places,' said Fremont Mayor Terry Overmyer."

Since when is a responsible, well-trained, background-checked person carrying concealed for their own protection considered equivalent to "playing around" with firearms?

" 'No silver bullet' is a phrase we hear a lot these days (particularly when the government is making excuses for its failures to keep us safe from murderers)."

"But there are a few genuine silver bullets in the worldsimple tools that can solve major problems. Some important sources are picking up on one of those remarkable tools."

"In a full-page article in the May 2004 issue of Guns & Ammo, Dr. Paul Gallant and Dr. Joanne Eisen write:

'The fact that genocides have only been successfully perpetrated against unarmed civilians cannot be overstated. 'Innocents Betrayed' will knock the wind out of any claim that the world will be safer when all civilians are disarmed.' "
