" 'I don't think that approving legislation that takes away the rights of gun violence victims is the best way to mark the anniversary of what we went through six years ago,' said Tom Mauser, the father of Daniel Mauser, who perished at Columbine."
" 'It's bad public policy, and the timing is exceptionally bad taste,' said Michael Barnes, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence."
------- Apparently, it's not exceptionally bad taste to use a horrifying tragedy as a political tool to kill legislation of which you disapprove. |

"Holding manufacturers accountable for crime is an effort to undercut gun ownership rights." ...
"America still clings to a version of democracy with a Constitution and a Bill of Rights; and we have elections every couple of years. So there's little likelihood that Congress and state legislatures are going to turn gun control into an outright ban on guns." "Anti-gun zealots know this. So they're investing a lot of their hopes in the courts, rather than in Congress. The idea is to file civil lawsuits against gun makers and ask judges and juries to hold them accountable for crimes committed with firearms. They hope a few big wins in court will create ruinous liability for firearm manufacturers, putting them out of business." |

"It would be interesting to hear violence-mongering simpletons like Ted Nugent explain to Anna Maria Moreno how guns keep you safe." KABA Note: It would also be interesting to hear a pseudo-journalistic hack like Spencer explain to Tony Romano's handicapped son how the gun his father used to kill a home invader who threatened his life that a gun did nothing to keep him safe.
"Like Ted Nugent, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold believed in the liberating power of firearms. They got one of the guns used in their killing spree via a legal loophole that made straw purchases of weapons easier. The NRA didn't want that loophole closed after Harris and Klebold gunned down 12 students and one teacher at Columbine." KABA Note: Could Mr. Nugent sue Mr. Spencer for his slanderous comparison to the sociopaths who perpetrated the Columbine massacre?
Further, the purchase of the weapons used in Columbine was perfectly legal. The person who bought these guns would not have been prevented from buying a firearm via a background check. That small fact escapes Mr. Spencer, who, in his apparent haste to vilify law-abiding gun owners, forgot to check his facts.

"Students are being taught to sell one another out. This isn't teaching them to do the right thing, but to do the right thing so long as money is involved. If students will tell a school official about a gun being brought to school only when a reward is present, there is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed."
"Instead of teaching their students to tattle on their friends for money, schools should be focusing on the more important issues at hand. For example, students aren't being taught what it means to be a good citizen. If children and young adults are lacking in this area, there will be no hope for future society." |

"I have been familiar with biathlon dating back to the 1970s when I followed the competitive career of Glenn Jobe, the founder of both the Kirkwood and Tahoe Donner Cross Country areas who represented the United States in the biathlon at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. (Jobe was inducted into the University of Nevada's Wolf Pack Hall of Fame in 2003)."
"I always watch the sport when the Winter Olympics are aired on television and I always marvel at the strength, skill and aerobic capacity of world class athletes who are able to race 10- to 20-kilometers with a rifle on their back, while making periodic stops to shoot at targets."
"This is an event that combines two sports that are polar opposites. I mean, these athletes have an ability to stop in the middle of their race, relax enough to bring their pulse rates down to what most of us would consider "resting," and then calmly shoot five straight bullseyes." |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908 [by an Indian extremist opposed to Gandhi's agreement with Smuts], whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defend me, I told him it was his duty to defend me even by using violence. Hence it was that I took part in the Boer War, the so-called Zulu Rebellion and [World War I]. Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor. Mohandas K. Gandhi, Young India, August 11, 1920 from Fischer, Louis ed.,The Essential Gandhi, 1962 |
