"Two women were shot during the sprawling brawl, two other people were wounded and several police officers injured. More than 50 people were arrested." ...

"The police "are here to protect us, that's the bottom line," said Al Centrella of Hempstead, who was in the area with his wife to see a show."

The price of liberty is to be eternally vigilant, William Morgan told those gathered Saturday at a Second Amendment support rally.

"Servitude is the consequence if you're not vigilant," Morgan said. "The Second Amendment is the keystone to the Bill of Rights."

Many in attendance carried their rifles or firearms, while others stood near the street holding brightly colored signs supporting the Second Amendment.

A Texas organization is raising money to buy guns for residents in high-crime areas and single women who may be vulnerable to attack.

The Armed Citizen Project, based in Houston, also has operations in Tucson, Ariz., near the site of a 2011 shooting that killed six and injured 13, including former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

According to its website, the group is also organizing efforts in Dallas, Indianapolis, Chicago and Detroit, and is seeking volunteers in other cities to help equip qualified citizens with 20-gauge shotguns.

People who accept a gun must pass a background check and complete a safety training course. In addition, they must have lived at their current address for at least a year.

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York challenging the constitutionality of Title 38 of the Rules of the City of New York. NYSRPA believes that 38 RCNY infringes upon the Second Amendment by denying the specifically enumerated civil right to possess and carry a firearm for personal defense as well as completely prohibiting residents from practicing safe gun handling at a firearms range or participating in shooting events located outside the borders of the City of New York.

It didnt take long for the concerned calls to start coming in. Ever since the creation of the NY SAFE Act in January, the office of Allegany County Sheriff Rick Whitney has been inundated with questions pertaining to the controversial gun control legislation. Is my firearm now classified as an assault weapon? Am I going to be suddenly breaking the law for simply owning my gun? How many rounds can I place in my magazine? Is someone going to take away my right to defend myself? Sheriff Whitney and U.S. Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, addressed those questions and more in an informational presentation to area sportsmen Thursday night at the Wellsville Fire Hall.

Lawmakers and families of the victims of the deadly shootings last year at a Connecticut elementary school were divided Monday over reported compromise legislation that would ban some but not all high-capacity ammunition magazines in the state.

The Courant quoted legislative leaders Monday as saying their measure would ban the sale of magazines able to handle more than 10 bullets.

But in a compromise, the lawmakers said the bill would include a "grandfather clause" allowing people who already own such magazines to keep them, The Courant reported.

What police are calling an attempted home invasion at the Huntingtown home of a retired D.C. police officer ended with one of the suspects dead and another on the run.

The gunshots were four or five at first, says Kathy Rhoads, a neighbor. Everyone came out.

Residents in the tight-knit community are on edge after they say two men with baseball bats tried to invade a neighbor's house late Easter Sunday. The retired officer shot and killed one of the suspects.

The homeowner was in fear for his life, says Lt. Jones with the Calvert County Sheriffs Office. He was acting in self-defense.

In a nod to the Kennesaw law requiring gun ownership that passed thirty years ago, the small town of Nelson is poised to pass a similar law at Tuesday's City Council meeting. Heads of households will be "required" to own a gun, but exceptions will be made for the disabled, felons, and anyone who opposes the use of firearms. Supporters openly admit it won't be enforced, because it's more of a political statement.

"No one is going to knock on your door and say do you have a gun, it's just to make the people of Nelson feel comfortable, to have a gun to protect themselves," said council member Edith Portillo.

SAF is joined in the action by the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association. Defendants in the lawsuit are Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning and David Sankey, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol, both in their official capacities.

Pistol caliber AR-15-style rifles have been around for decades, and there are now a number of different offerings. Not only is pistol ammunition cheaper than rifle ammunition, I have yet to hear of a range that didnt allow the use of pistol caliber carbines. These guns also have a utility beyond that of simple target shooting, namely self-defense. Depending on the caliber and load, youll see an extra 100 to 300 fps boost when firing pistol ammo out of a carbine-length barrel.

It is the brainstorm of the president of the County Board, Toni Preckwinkle. It will levy $25 for on each gun sale in suburban Cook County. At the rate at which guns seem to be flying off the shelves the idea is that this tax will bring in a sizable chunk of change.

The Preckwinkle Tax applies only to the Second Amendment. But the significance of the measure is that it opens up the question of whether our governments in need of money can tap into the full Bill of Rights. If, after all, one can tax the right to keep and bear arms, imagine what one could do with the right to freely exercise ones religion that is vouchsafed in the First Amendment. How about $10 every time someone says a prayer.

Most gun owners would agree that the Second Amendment is not so much about self-defense as it is about protecting the rights of hunters and sportsmen to keep and bear arms.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is to hunt and shoot clay pigeons, said Thomas Jefferson, during the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

More recently, other important and credible politicians have reminded us that hunting is what our right to keep and bear arms is all about.

Im disgusted with the inane responses made by gun addicts in defense of their supposed rights to buy, sell, trade and possess any firearm they please at any time or any place.

I doubt the Second Amendment confers such freedom and anonymity. Many of our other freedoms outlined in the Bill of Rights come with limits.

Governor Jack Dalrymple will now decide if he should join other states in banning governors from regulating guns during natural disasters.

The North Dakota legislature passed a bill that prevents the Governor, state agency, or any political subdivision from prohibiting gun possession during a declared emergency. The bill also protects citizens from the confiscation of their firearms during a disaster. The measure is in response to what happened in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Many residents armed themselves to protect their lives and property and the local police department decided only law enforcement could have guns.

Gun control advocates in Sacramento are putting a new twist on an old NRA slogan: "Guns don't kill people -- bullets kill people."

Democratic lawmakers are pushing like never before to regulate or tax ammunition sales. They say the logic is simple: A firearm is nothing but an expensive paperweight without ammunition.

"We regulated gun sales because of our concern about safety, (so) by logical extension we should do so with bullets," said state Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, whose AB48 will be heard Tuesday by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.

The New York Times caused a sensation with its kazillion-word, March 17 article by Michael Luo on the failures of state courts to get guns out of the hands of men in domestic violence situations.

The main purpose of the article was to tweak Americas oldest civil rights organization, the National Rifle Association, for opposing some of the more rash anti-gun proposals being considered by state legislatures, such as allowing courts to take away a persons firearms on the basis of a temporary restraining order.

Its a new position for liberals to oppose the rights of the accused. Usually the Times is demanding that even convicted criminals be given voting rights, light sentences, sex-change operations and vegan meals in prison.

Magpul Industries, which manufactures firearms accessories and ammunition magazines, said on its Facebook page that it would have "no choice" but to leave if the magazine bill was signed, causing an opening for states eager to prove they're more gun-friendly, like Alaska.

Eight months ago, in the days after a gunman killed 12 people at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., the Bellingham Trading Post sold so many handguns the shelves were bare, said Gamez-Mendoza, a burly Venezuelan expatriate employed at the store, 5250 Guide Meridian.

Eugene Robinsons Sunday column, Standing up to the NRA, is typical sensationalistic reporting from the liberal press and anti-gunners.

If that is an arsenal, then most avid hunters and serious shooting sports participants are in real trouble, as most have larger arsenals than what was found in the home of Adam Lanza, the Newtown, Conn., shooter.

The compendium of things Congress does have the power to do is article I, section 8 of the Constitution. In those 18 clauses, I count 60 separate powers. If a power does not reside among those 60, it doesn't exist. Try as I might, I cannot find among the 60 a power to regulate the civilian ownership of firearms.
