"In a little-noticed victory for gun-control advocates across the United States, the number of gun dealers in the nation has fallen 78 percent in the past 10 years as tens of thousands of home-based dealers surrendered their federal licenses." ...

"'The gun-control agenda has evolved from the halls of Congress and the courts,' said Andrew Arulanandam, the director of public affairs for the National Rifle Association (NRA). 'Now we're seeing it evolve to the micro level in local municipalities.'"

"What appears to be welcome news to gun opponents might just have driven gun sales off the books, as fewer personal gun sales are logged, vetted and tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)." ...

"'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.' Thats the wording of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States acknowledging the right of American citizens to keep and bear arms for the purpose of defending their lives, family, homes and liberty."

"Many believe that 'ordinary' citizens shouldnt be 'permitted' to have guns, that they dont have legitimate need for guns and can't be responsible with them. They believe our armed 'servants' should prevent us (with their guns) from having them. They argue that ... 'the people' actually dont have any right to keep and bear arms. ..." ...

"The veto override, the first in Kansas in 12 years, leaves Wisconsin, Illinois and Nebraska as the only states that don't have a provision allowing qualified citizens to carry hidden weapons."

"That fact is certain to be hit hard the next time lawmakers seek to overturn Wisconsin's 153-year-old ban on carrying concealed weapons, likely next year. House Bill 400, sponsored by Representative John Coghill (R-North Pole) passed the House of Representatives earlier today by a unanimous vote.

The legislation would prevent the confiscation of firearms from law-abiding citizens during a disaster. Representative Coghill drafted HB 400 in response to the situation that arose following Hurricane Katrina when various government agencies entered homes in New Orleans to confiscate firearms.

Representative Coghill said of the legislation, "We learned a lesson from others' mistakes. I don't expect it would happen in Alaska, and now we have a policy that states what would happen to those that attempt to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of Alaska citizens."

HB 400 now moves to the Senate for consideration.

"Duke looks worried. He should be."

"The fretful expression on the 8-foot statue of John Wayne matches the somber mood these days at the U.S. Repeating Arms Co., where Wayne's larger-than-life figure stands watch in the lobby, his left hand clutching the company's most famous firearm--a Winchester rifle, the 'gun that won the West.'"

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Without freedom there will be no firearms among the people; without firearms among the people there will not long be freedom. Certainly there are examples of countries where the people remain relatively free after the people have been disarmed, but there are no examples of a totalitarian state being created or existing where the people have personal arms. Neal Knox
