Gun-toting motorists more prone to road rage (a/k/a/ More anti-gun rhetoric from Hemenway and Crew)

"GUN lobbyists like to repeat the quote often attributed to American writer Robert Heinlein, that 'an armed society is a polite society'. But this is certainly not true for motorists."

"A survey of 2400 drivers carried out by David Hemenway and his colleagues at the Harvard School of Public Health shows that motorists who carry guns in their cars are far more likely to indulge in road rage - driving aggressively or making obscene gestures - than motorists without guns. Some 23 per cent of gun-toting drivers admitted making rude signs, compared with 16 per cent of those who did not carry guns ..."

-------
KABA Note: Do Hemenway and crew ever change their tune or admit their blatant bias?

They didn't find that those who experience road rage are more likely to use their guns, but that didn't stop them from drawing yet another tenuous conclusion.

"While I applaud the principle of Paula Felder's article on bringing a sense of the process to the story of the Bill of Rights, her grasp of the Second Amendment is rather faulty ['The Bill of Rights story is incomplete without a look at the process,' Jan. 20]."

"She consistently cites it as an obsolete item intended to 'give a nod' to an outdated law in Virginia. Not so."

"The composition of the 'militia' that she describes as 'Colonial' and "obsolete" is not the product of an old state law, but is currently part of U.S. public law..."

"I am of the opinion that personal ownership of firearms without limitation is a right guaranteed by the Constitution."

It seems another organization has entered the Gun Control issue. It is actually a combination of three different orgs. which have combined their forces to promote the elimination of freedom worldwide. Their name is Control Arms. The following is their 'mission' statement;

"Our Million Faces petition is collecting photos and self portraits from around the world to reach our goal of one million faces by June 2006. We will use these faces to send a powerful, global message of support to the world's governments for an International Arms Trade Treaty."

Let's give them a hand, shall we?

"Anticipating the arrival of Cabela's, a nationally known camping and hunting outfitter, Hoffman Estates officials are loosening local restrictions on gun sales."

"The Public Health and Safety Committee -- which consists of the entire Village Board -- voted unanimously Jan. 23 to repeal parts of an existing firearms ordinance, eliminating local oversight of gun purchases in the village. A preliminary vote on the amended ordinance is scheduled for Monday. A final vote is expected Feb. 20."

"The reason for the change is that the existing ordinance is outdated and will be onerous for buyers and sellers such as Cabela's, said Village Manager Jim Norris."

We see thousands of those each day, so what? None of them have anything to do with keeping guns away from criminals, which should be the primary role of any gun-control initiative. Not even its most adamant supporters claim that the gun registry does that."

"I view the issue as much like poachers versus hunting and fishing. A couple of lawbreakers can tarnish an industry and create an issue for the vast majority of law-abiding citizens who value their Second Amendment rights. Just as hunters shouldn't tolerate poachers or anglers shouldn't turn blind eyes to those who abuse limits or seasons, honorable shooting-sports and firearms enthusiasts need to protect their reputations."
