What does it really mean to say that people have a right to stand their ground in a public space? Is the ground theirs? Does it belong to them? Why do they need to stand there and not somewhere else? Is it that unreasonable to require that people do everything they can to avoid conflict before engaging in it? Of course not.

What we need is for more people to exhibit self-restraint in tense situations, not people who shoot first and ask questions later.

For Joel Jones, educating gun owners is a step toward combating misuse and mishandling of firearms that result in tragedies. Thats why he started the Strong Arms Gun Club in Virginia Beach to teach gun safety, provide training and educate people of color so they feel more comfortable using firearms for self-defense.

We're simply here to train all of our members in the ways of the Second Amendment and to be more proficient in firearms and to help them defend themselves, he said. Thats in line with the national mission [of] the National African American Gun Association.

My heart goes out to Elias Armstrongs family in this time of terrible and overwhelming grief. I met with members of his family last week along with the DPD detective and members of my office to explain why a criminal case could not be brought based on the facts. The DAs Office can only file charges when guilt can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. In this instance, we cannot file charges because of self-defense issues which were present at the time.

Andrea Chamblee believes stronger wear and carry gun permit laws could have prevented the shooter who killed her husband, John McNamara, and four of his Capital Gazette newspaper colleagues, from possessing a firearm on June 28, 2018.

Chamblee, a volunteer with Moms Demand Actions Maryland chapter, said Wednesday that the shooter legally purchased the long gun used in the killings, despite a history of violence and lackluster attendance of anger management classes.

Today, the House voted 87-26 to pass House Bill 3594, the constitutional carry bill. H 3594 recognizes the right of law-abiding adults to carry a firearm for self-defense without having to first pay fees or obtain government permission, while also increasing penalties for criminals caught with firearms. H 3594 now goes to the Senate for further consideration. NRA will keep you updated as it receives a committee assignment.

H 3594 does not change who is eligible to obtain a carry permit. It also does not affect previously issued permits and allows citizens who still wish to obtain a permit in order to carry in other states recognizing South Carolinas permits, to do so.

It may save a bunch of lives.

A day after an Orlando television reporter was killed on the job, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday criticized Florida Republican leaders for proposals that would allow people to carry concealed weapons without licenses.

"This is the opposite of common-sense gun safety," Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing. "And the people of Florida, who have paid a steep price for state and congressional inaction on guns, from Parkland to Pulse Nightclub to Pine Hills, deserve better."

Small devices that make handguns spray fully-automatic fire are being found weekly in Cincinnati, police say. The proliferation of the devices has caught the attention of federal law enforcement.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive demonstrated the illegal accessory, often called a Glock switch or auto sear, at the Great Oaks firing range in Sharonville on Wednesday.

ATF special agent Nicholas Radebaugh sprayed a target with 31 rounds in under two seconds using the device. He is a military veteran and said a Glock equipped with this device is the fastest thing he has ever shot.

By now, it is no surprise that a political movement has swept the nation that seeks to scrutinize and limit the ability of law enforcement to fight crime. Unfortunately, many events have happened that, indeed, call into question the actions of police officers. There have been numerous high-profile incidents in which police officers have used excessive force or, in some cases, failed to act when they clearly should have. The problem, however, is that rather than focus on funding the necessary training requirements for police to do things better, the political movement that is in sway seeks to dismantle the law enforcement apparatus.

Mike Paige, who owns Hartland Township firearms store Oakland Tactical Supply, and five firearms owners sued the township in 2018 after Howell Township officials denied Paige's 2017 request to rezone land on Fleming Road for the range. The suit claimed the township violated the Second Amendment.

A bill that easily passed the Kentucky House Wednesday would make the state a Second Amendment sanctuary.

House Bill 153 would ensure Kentucky couldnt use tax dollars or law enforcement to enforce a federal gun ban on ammunition, magazines, accessories or certain types of guns, according to sponsor Rep. Josh Bray (R-Mount Vernon).

Kentuckians should decide firearm policy through their elected representatives, not through some bureaucrat in Washington D.C. who is changing the interpretation of an existing federal guideline, Bray said.

In saying that it's easier to get a gun in Pennsylvania than in neighboring states, Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney recently suggested that firearm sales in the state should be regulated just like the sale of alcohol.

"If we control guns like we control the sale of liquor and wine, we'd be in much better shape than we are now. It's ridiculous," said Kenney.

Addressing the media during a press conference Tuesday to discuss the tragic killing of Temple University police officer Christopher Fitzgerald, Kenney called Pennsylvania a 'gun-crazy state.'

Senate Bill 10, sponsored by Sen. Bill Eigel, R-St. Charles, seeks to prevent federal law from allowing courts to confiscate firearms, firearm accessories or ammunition from law-abiding citizens. Those confiscations would be considered an infringement of Second Amendment rights, according to the bill summary.

The bill would also block local law enforcement agencies and other public entities from receiving federal funding aimed to help enforce those confiscations. Federal crime legislation signed by President Joe Biden last year included federal financial incentives to states that passed red flag gun laws.
