"'I dont care' was a representative response from some gun owners in reaction to this column posting a draft of Dianne Feinsteins 'assault weapon' ban bill. Its a curious reaction, not only because of highly-publicized anticipation in the gun and 'gun control' communities and the headline news her press conference generated, but because, at this writing, the text still is not posted on the official Library of Congress THOMAS legislative database website. Even more curiously, the draft posted in Gun Rights Examiners Scribd document archive account has, to date, only received 31,000+ page views, this for a bill that presumably interests millions. How many have actually read it through is probably a lot less." ... |

"By now, everyone has heard or read some variation of the argument that assault weapons should be banned in spite of the negligible public safety benefits that would result, because nobody needs a semi-automatic rifle with a 30-round magazine. This line of reasoning is particularly infuriating because the people who use it clearly dont apply this logic to anything except guns.... So, as a resource for the Armed Intelligentsia, Ive assembled an annotated list of some common objects and circumstances that no one really needs, but are more of a public danger than scary military-style rifles. I anxiously await the anguished calls that they be banned . . ." ... |

"My mother was trying to make a case for gun laws based on vehicular laws. Here was my response."
"1- The private sale of a vehicle does not have to be reported to the state 2- A motor vehicle sale does not require a criminal background check 3- There is no limit to the capacity of horsepower a vehicle may have 4- A person can legally own a vehicle at any age 5- A vehicle can be operated in public as early as 16 6- There is no waiting period to buy a car 7- You can buy as many cars you want in a month 8- Students are allowed to bring their cars to school" ... |

"Advocates for gun restrictions toss around statistics like theyre magic talismans which confer instant credibility in any debate. The favored source for factoids on gun purchases including the proportion of transactions subject to background checks is the National Institute of Justice report, 'Guns in America: National Survey on Private Ownership and Use of Firearms.' Published in 1997, the report is based on an even-older piece of research, the 'National Study of Private Ownership of Firearms in the United States,' a survey sponsored by the Police Foundation in 1994."

"The current battle over gun rights is a conflict between people who understand and value the American political system and those who could no more describe the workings of our Constitutional republic than ask Shlomit Malka for a date in her native tongue. I dont see the general publics ignoranceand the resulting support for civilian disarmamentas a conspiracy by left-leaning academics to undermine our way of life one pig-ignorant student at a time. I see citizens mindless acquiescence to the Progressive agenda as a reflection of our systems success. Our government works so peaceably (in the main) that citizens dont have to give gun rights any serious thought. Until they bloody well do. Literally. ..." ... |

"Faced with the prospect of new federal gun restrictions, the Wyoming House gave initial approval Wednesday to bills that sponsors say would exempt guns in the state from new regulations while possibly taking the fight to criminals who might choose to attack public schools."
"The House voted in favor of a bill that would seek to block the federal government from restricting assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. It amended the bill to specify that federal officials who tried to enforce any ban would be subject to state misdemeanor charges instead of felony charges." ... |

"After finding itself embroiled in another controversy about edited video, NBC News has re-aired a clip its critics say was selectively edited."
"On Monday, MSNBC's Martin Bashir aired a video that seemed to show grief-stricken Neil Heslin being heckled by pro-gun lobbyists as he talked about his 6-year-old son, who was killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. While making a plea for gun control at a legislative hearing, Heslin at one point he turned to the audience and said: 'I ask if theres anybody in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question: why anybody in this room needs to have one of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips.' ..." ... |
