A Tennessee man is being hailed as a hero by police, who say he shot another man who allegedly entered a dentist office and fatally shot his wife
Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy told reporters on Wednesday that earlier that day authorities got a report of an active-shooter situation at David A. Guy Dentistry in Kingsport.
Cassidy, who described the situation as workplace violence of the domestic type, said the situation couldve been worse, had it not been for a citizen with a concealed weapon.
We do have a concealed-carry permit holder, Im not sure where he was at at the time, but call him a hero. He took care of the situation until police officers arrived, he told local media. |

Winkler said most of the state laws introduced in the last year have been restrictive, adding that, "there's also been a number of laws passed that make it easier to have access to guns."
That was the case for most of the legislation passed in the Mountain West.
Idaho and Wyoming both expanded their states Stand your Ground laws which allow the use of lethal force for self-defense. Wyoming also passed a law allowing concealed weapons in houses of worship. |

On the one-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead, the Utah House of Representatives hadn't yet debated new legislation to address the calls for gun reform.
Instead, the House approved a resolution Thursday recognizing "that the best manner to protect the vulnerable without infringing on the right of the people to bear arms is to enforce the laws already found in Utah code."
That nonbinding resolution, sponsored by Rep. Cory Maloy, R-Lehi, passed with a 56-16 vote mostly along party lines. It passed despite Democrats' complaints that the resolution sends the wrong message that Utah's laws already do enough to protect people from gun violence. |

On the other hand, if Roberts holds true to his professed constitutionalist roots, and if new Associate Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh boldly hold fast to principles reflected to decisions in which they participated while on lower court benches, and if we do not lose Justice Thomas (which would be a shock indeed) or Justice Alito (who authored the McDonald opinion), we might just might squeeze out a 5-4 majority opinion that the right to possess a firearm in ones home, as recognized finally in 2008, extends necessarily to possess that instrument outside the homeplace. |

Further, states can strengthen these laws without imposing overly broad Second Amendment restrictions on the general public.
On the whole, federal prohibitions on possession of firearms by the mentally ill correctly focus on individualized determinations of dangerousness, and not on the broader category of diagnosis alone.
This is consistent with both the Second Amendments protection of a fundamental right and a recognition that the existence of a mental illness in and of itself does not mean a person poses a heightened risk of future violence. |

In a 29-8 vote Thursday, the Kentucky Senate approved a bill calling for the elimination of permits for carrying concealed weapons in the state.
Kentucky already lets gun owners carry firearms openly without a permit.
The sponsor of the concealed-carry bill noted that only law-abiding citizens are currently required to pay a fee and take a firearms-safety course in order to carry concealed weapons.
"Criminals, on the other hand, already carry concealed weapons without permits," Sen. Brandon Smith, a Republican from Hazard, told the Courier Journal of Louisville. |

I would like to commend the Tulsa World for recently taking a strong stance against permitless carry legislation and recognizing it as a dangerous and unnecessary proposition ("Tulsa World editorial: State can honor Second Amendment and modestly limit gun possession," Feb.10).
As the Oklahoma Legislature once again considers passing this reckless piece of legislation, it is worth revisiting why it is opposed by the majority of Oklahomans, including law enforcement, and why it was vetoed by Gov. Mary Fallin just last year. |

This past week prosecutors appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals the decision by a Nevada federal judge to dismiss with prejudice all charges against Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy, two of his sons and a self-style militiaman from Montana because the government failed to disclose potentially exculpatory evidence to the defense. |

It is dangerous to let other people do our thinking for us. We seem certain we can define hate speech. Were convinced that assault weapons are bad. Both terms have been manipulated by politicians and the media to mean anything they want them to mean. We were sold such a twisted-logic of lies that it would be funny.. if it were not so dangerous.
Elites with armed bodyguards tell us to give up our tools of self-defense. Were called toxic-hateful-deplorable-clingers if we object. Assault weapon is a debating term and so is hate speech. An assault weapon is any firearm a politician wants to confiscate today. Hate speech are any statements that criticize the politicians latest voting block. The elites lie to us. |

The number of Washington law enforcement and government leaders balking at upholding gun control measures approved by voters in November is growing.
Stevens County Sheriff Brad Manke said his deputies will not actively seek out violators unless there is an imminent threat to public safety.
I took an oath to defend the Constitution and uphold the laws of the state of Washington, so I dont feel I can say I will not enforce a law under any circumstances, he said. However, it would have to be a pretty extreme circumstance for us to ever make a custodial arrest for a violation. |
