. . . If your preferred candidate has little chance to win, voting for someone else or staying home on Election Day will only serve to prevent similar candidates from ever breaking through to significant levels of support.

What if voting for a third party or independent candidate does allow the more objectionable major party candidate to win? Short of victory for the true pro-liberty candidate, this is in fact the best outcome that can be hoped for. Why? Because the more liberty-friendly major party (traditionally the Republicans, though perhaps not so in 2004) could interpret this in only one way -- as dramatic evidence that they have drifted too far from their espoused principles, and that this time, it cost them.

After pulling him over, the officer asked to search Peruchi's car. Peruchi had about $19,000 in a satchel, but nothing criminal to hide, so he consented. The officer found Peruchi's cash, and immediately suspected Peruchi was involved with drugs. He called in drug-sniffing dogs, who then reacted suspiciously to Peruchi's satchel (most all of the U.S. money supply carries feint amounts of drug residue, mostly cocaine).

The dogs' reaction, no more, was enough for the West Memphis police department to seize Peruchi's money. When Peruchi protested, the police officer retorted, "Carry checks next time."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The Annapolis city council could vote Monday night on a proposal to ban the sale and possession of real-looking toy guns in the city.

Offenders could be fined up to $1,000 or sent to jail for up to three months.

The ordinance was introduced by Alderwoman Cynthia Carter after a 7-year-old boy was arrested in April for pointing a toy gun at a video store clerk. The boy was charged with attempted armed robbery.

Carter says she plans to add an amendment excluding toy guns that are transparent, brightly colored or otherwise don't resemble firearms.

She says she's concerned that police might shoot a child carrying a real-looking toy gun.

About 90 percent of Wisconsin sheriffs would ask to opt out of the proposed concealed weapons bill if it became law because they do not have the resources to conduct adequate background checks on applicants, a spokesman for a sheriffs association says.

"Sheriffs and their deputies take very seriously the power to issue a permit where a person can potentially use deadly force," said Jeff Wiswell, spokesman for the Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association.

"It's ridiculous in the extreme to think that we would do a simple computer check on a concealed weapons application." ...

We agree, though probably for different reasons: You're not required to get a "permit" to exercise your First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Amendment rights. So why should you be required to get one to exercise the Second? That is, indeed, ridiculous.

In the issue of concealed weapon or open carry, and any issue involving the arming of the people, judges do not have any discretionary power whatsoever as the 2nd Amendment is as clear as can be written. It is enumerated as the founders by their own words knew the dangers of giving a few authority ... and wanted to preserve the right of self-defense. This includes above all the right to defend against government officials running amuck with their sickness caused by assumed authority.

This nation was founded by courageous, humble, selfless individuals - statesmen, soldiers, farmers, housewives, businessmen and blue collar workers, who were willing to give their lives, reputations and honor in exchange for our freedom.

During the past 225 years We the People have allowed wolves in sheeps' clothing to enter our freedom flock and destroy many of our natural rights:

- Socialists are overtaking our education system, re-writing history and preparing our children to live under a governing system of total dependence.

- Our right to self-defense, to protect our family, neighbors, community and nation is being threatened by self-righteous elitists who want to control every aspect of our lives.

. . . The police had attempted to justify the April 7th attack by falsely claiming that protesters had showered them with a hail of rocks, bottles and railroad spikes, thus forcing them to fire in self defense. However, numerous videos, including one taken by the police themselves, showed that there'd been no rock throwing. The videos along with witnesses accounts established that the demonstrators were peaceful, and Oakland police officials were caught in a lie.

Meanwhile, no charges have been filed against the police.

But only cops should have guns, right Sarah? They would never use them to restrict people's rights like peaceable assembly and free speech.

. . . She has started a monthly series of self-defense classes designed to teach people with physical limitations to defend themselves.

The workshops are taught by Johnny G., the former owner of JG's Self Defense and Natural Healing Center of Hackettstown.

"J.G.," said he goes beyond teaching people just self-defense techniques. He said he helps each person to tap into his or her own inner essence.

Other self-defense programs teach aggression and violence, but J.G. said that can actually help the attacker.

Instead, J.G. points to pressure points, inner energies, mental awareness and reaction as the main tools needed for self-protection.

Far North farmer Paul McIntyre has told a Kaikohe court he shot at three men who tried to steal his quad bike in an attempt to "slow the buggers down".

Today is the second day of a pre-trial hearing into the charges against the 45-year-old.

In a taped police interview Paul McIntyre claims he had only been aiming at the tyre of the truck used by the three when he hit the driver in the collarbone.

When asked why he had a loaded pump-action shotgun with him, he states he was hardly going to confront the complainants with a piece of paper and a pen.

Asked why he reloaded his gun, having already fired a warning shot, McIntyre says he feared the intruders might also be armed and he wanted to be ready.

A policeman was shot and critically wounded and a police vehicle stolen during an attack on Monday morning.

Superintendent Opperman said the policeman and his female colleague were driving when they noticed three suspicious looking people.

They got out of their vehicle and approached the suspects, who was acting nervously, Opperman said.

As they approached the three men, one of the suspects fired shots at them.

The policeman was shot in his stomach. His colleague escaped unharmed.

The attackers fled in the police vehicle.

The vehicle was found abandoned about two kilometres from the crime scene.

Cigarette price increases have led to a sharp rise in robberies from tobacco shops in France and the government says it plans to give owners extra protection.

Things have got so bad that tobacco outlets have even been targeted by ram-raiders -- thieves who smash stolen cars into shop fronts in a technique usually reserved for jewelry stores.

The government last month raised the price of cigarettes by 20 percent, sparking the anger of smokers and of the country's 34,000 tobacconists, who staged a one-day strike in protest.

"All the things we predicted have come true...development of a black market and smuggling, and a rise in burglaries and hold-ups," head of the National Confederation of Tobacco Outlets, told the daily Le Figaro.

It was the kind of bloodshed that has become depressingly routine in Rio's shantytowns - four young men dead from a hail of police bullets.

Cops said they fired in self-defence when they were shot at by drug traffickers and found the four bodies afterwards.

Witnesses said the officers attacked with no provocation and finished off at least one wounded man from close range.

The toll wasn't even particularly high by the standards of the city's slums, where shootouts between come with numbing regularity.

But the incident last spring, for which five officers face charges, is back in the spotlight after the recent visit of a special United Nations investigator probing killings by police.

A survey of police officers finds two thirds do not want to be armed all the time.

The poll was conducted on behalf of their union, the Police Association.

It finds 64 percent of officers oppose carrying guns all the time, with 31 percent in favour and five percent unsure.

Six percent say they would quit the force if arming became mandatory.

The poll finds support for being armed is strongest amongst younger frontline constables, citing self-defence and increasing violent crime.

But New Zealand has strict anti-gun laws, so why would the cops need guns?
