The sweet aroma of burnt gunpowder tickled the noses of shooters at the 64th annual Saunders Memorial Muzzle-loader Shoot in Berryville. Clouds of smoke drifted over the gun range during the shoot Sept. 26-29 at Luther Owens Park on the outskirts of town. Muzzleloader enthusiasts from several states fired black-powder rifles, pistols and shotguns at targets for awards. Gunpowder and ammunition are loaded by hand through the end of the barrel for a single shot. |

First produced in 1930, the .22 Hornet was developed by the Springfield Armory and is to this day an excellent cartridge for hunting varmints and predators. It has even been used in the U.K. for hunting deer with great success. The cartridge has mild recoil and good accuracy, with relatively low noise levels making this a great choice for hunting vermin in more populated areas.

We all know New York is an anti-gun bastion. The state, like most in the Northeast with the exception of Vermont, has some of the most stringent anti-Second Amendment laws on the books. The law thats going to be argued before the Supreme Court iswellwhat youd expect from a state like this: In New York City, its illegal to transport a locked, licensed and unloaded firearm to a range or home outside of the city limits. |

Buried in a story from WOSU about the introduction of new gun control legislation in Ohio by Gov. Mike DeWine that does not include a so-called red flag disarmament provision is an observation by Buckeye Lt. Gov. Jon Husted that reveals a genuine problem many Second Amendment activists contend is inherent in such laws.
The news agency said DeWines STRONG Ohio plan does not include a red flag tenet, nor is there a so-called enhanced background check portion.

Youll forgive the wordplay, but the hard fact is this: We begin National Reviews 2019 Fall webathon against the backdrop of Americas most critical free-speech drama Mann v. National Review. Its our battle, yes, but its very much yours too, because the consequences of a courtroom defeat will be serious (an understatement if there ever was one) for all Americans. |

Newly released FBI crime statistics show that the number of murders committed by all rifles dropped significantly in 2018 while newly released data from the Department of Justice strongly suggests that the governments bump stock ban has been a complete failure. The new FBI data showed that all murder dropped by 6.2% in 2018 and that gun murders also dropped by 6.7% in 2018. Specifically, murders committed by all types of rifles combined dropped by a staggering 23.9%.

You couldnt have rolled a pickup truck full of beer cans off the mountain and created more commotion than the bull elk was making. Id heard him bugle, checked the wind, snuck closer, and ultimately found myself a nice aspen tree to sit against. I could see 50 yards ahead of me before the mountainside broke into the drainage belowbut I could see through the timber and onto the other face across the drainage, too, where the bull was. I had an open-reed call and some idea of what it was supposed to sound like. So I made a little mew. |
