"The mental image of my 2-year-old niece hefting a gun in her cute little hands almost brings a smile to my face."
"No, not because shes a crack shot and I taught her everything she knows. Shes not, and I didn't -- yet."
"That scenario makes me happy in a way because of the rest of the picture: Her parents with her, carefully showing her proper use of and respect for a gun."
"I wasn't there, so I don't know how accurate that image might be -- maybe she never even touched the guns -- but I'm glad my sisters and brothers-in-law recently took their kids out to learn gun safety and do some harmless target shooting under close supervision." ... |

... "In the wake of the recent wave of carnage, President George W. Bush, renowned moralist and global promoter of non-violence, quickly convened a summit on school safety. In parallel, right-wing talking heads quickly and deftly interspersed these shooting incidents with video footage of two girls in New Mexico brutally pummeling another girl on a school bus, casting all of these episodes as co-equal exhibits in a case against school violence and as occasion for yet another round of tirades against out-of-control youth. The president's summit, hailed by all who participated, provided much discussion on communication, 'intelligence' ... values and preparedness. Astoundingly, it mentioned nothing about guns." ... |

"Christakes Christou was charged with first-degree assault after he shot Dwayne Stepp, who broke into Christou's Funky Buddha bar at 3:11 a.m. on Jan. 3."
"The question is whether Colorado's Make My Day law, which says the occupant of a dwelling has the right to shoot an intruder, applies to a business."
"Defense lawyer Larry Pozner claims it does because Christou sometimes spent the night at his bar."
"Denver prosecutor Dawn Weber, however, said the law, which specifically uses the word 'dwelling,' pertains only to homes." ... |

"At Tuesday's MSA meeting, Forum members heard University President Bob Bruininks discuss ... the resolution that would ask the administration to change the Student Conduct Code to allow students to carry licensed handguns on campus."

Not even little girls tucked away in a tiny one-room schoolhouse.
