It's all very disorienting, and at times the pace is so frantic as the camera cuts to one location to another that I lost track of my bearings. Are we at the Blaine, Washington, border crossing? Or Los Angeles International Airport? Or maybe, who really gives a damn? The show is such a confection of a Jerry Bruckheimer film and the tv series Cops that I thought the wind might whip through one of these heroes' hair or the sun glimmer off an officer's sunglasses before they spring into action and ... screen more passengers, cars and cargo. It's all so very boring.
The show, created by executive producer Arnold Shapiro of Rescue 911 and Big Brother infamy, tells the story of the brave, stoic and very ordinary men and women that protect America's borders from nefarious terrorists and criminals. But this is drivel. Homeland Security USA is nothing more than a government propaganda push aided along by ABC network executives and approved by the department of homeland security (DHS). It's an hour-long recruitment commercial. |

Update: Bob Wright shares his reasoning behind the design.
"Was thinking about the 3% thing. I never flew my US flag during the Clinton Admininistration. I suspect the same will apply with Hussien's regime.. My loyalty lies with the America that was envisioned by our Founders. Taking that thought and the flag thought I have come up with a modified Betsy Ross style flag that I think might find favor with the Three Percenters. The Betsy Ross Flag represents the pure ideals of our founding. By placing the Three percent emblem in the circle of stars we are symbolically surrounding ourselves with that purity." |

Even without his economic stimulus plan, President-elect Barack Obama has already helped one segment of the economy: the gun business. The post-election bounce for gun sales comes from those who fear the Democratic president and the Democrat-controlled Congress might restrict gun ownership. |

Apparently it is now part of the politically correct mindset to view terms such as 'jack booted thugs' as part of an anti-law enforcement mentality.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Growing up in a small southern town as I did, I was around fire, police, and sheriff's officials during the entirety of my upbringing. I happen to know that many if not most of these persons are the salt of the earth. They are good men and women doing the best job they can.
Yet I am one of the first to use the term 'jack booted thug' when I see law enforcement run amok... |

The original sin of Waco has not been expiated by punishment of the murderers who carried it out. In the intervening 15 years, those who did it and those who covered it up have merely advanced in government, rewarded for their participation in and handmaidens of the mass murder of American citizens, including innocent women and children.
And now, courtesy of Obama, here they come again. "Send in the Waco Killers," as Vin Suprynowiz wrote.
They are coming.
Understand what they did and how they did it, and you will be better able to stop them this time. But understand this most of all. This time, we are ALL Davidians.

President-elect Barack Obama's nominee for attorney general has endorsed an extension of the law that allows federal agents to demand Americans' library and bookstore records as part of terrorism probes, dismaying a national group of independent booksellers.
Eric Holder said at his confirmation hearing Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee that he supports renewing a section of the USA Patriot Act that allows FBI agents investigating international terrorism or espionage to seek records from businesses, libraries and bookstores. If not renewed by Congress, the provision will expire at the end of 2009. |

A gas-masked Bremerton boy dressed in camouflage caused a stir on a construction site in the shipyard Wednesday while he was playing with what looked like real guns... Police were called to the 1700 block of Gregory Way about 3 p.m. when construction workers...reported seeing the boy waving guns toward them. Police, armed with rifles, found the boy inside a "barn-like" structure outside the shipyard... The boy had an air-soft pistol and a toy gun, along with a gas mask and a shoulder holster for a real gun, police said. He told officers he was "just playing in the back yard." The boy was released, but not before a stern talking-to. An officer "warned him about being careful about where he points his air-soft handgun," reports said. |

It's his decision, said Inspector General Robert Cerasoli, I don't have a problem with it. We will do everything the right way. ... Nagin writes, This order includes among other items, laser visible submachine guns, pistols, leg irons, belly chains, high-powered ammunition and tactical attire, adding, This concerns me greatly as your office was authorized not as a police force or a para-military operation, but as an administrative investigative unit."

South African missionary and author Charl Van Wyk says law abiding citizens have the "right and duty" to bear firearms to protect themselves and their loved ones. In his book, Shooting Back, he makes the argument based on his unique experience:First, he's been working for almost two decades in some of the most dangerous places on earth. And second, Van Wyk is a survivor of one of South Africa's most notorious criminal attacks... police credited him with saving many lives when he opened fire on the assailants with his personal revolver. "That specific evening, I responded to the attackers with a little 38 Special revolver that I was carrying. I returned fire at them... He shot one of the attackers, forcing them to flee. |

Congresswoman Daisy Tourn, one of the main champions of gun control in the Uruguayan Parliament is also currently head of the nations Ministry of Interior. Since she took office however, progress on the nations gun control agenda has been postponed by issues related to violence and insecurity, as well as social demands...
We estimate that one in four Uruguayans owns a firearm, in a population of three million citizens. We have approximately 600 thousand registered gun owners and estimate that there are an equivalent number of illegal guns in circulation... What is worrying is that although numbers are still more or less the same, there is a growing trend in violent behavior, which leads to an irresponsible use of firearms. |

No charges will be filed against the Omaha shop owner who shot and killed two people in his business Tuesday night because he fired in self-defense, said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine. Kleine said Andre McKesson, the owner of Midwest Grillz and Jewelry at 62nd Street and Ames Avenue, fired after 14 or 15 shots. Kleine said police told him McKesson got into an argument with Willie Wakefield, 29, and Marcel Davis, 16. At one point, Wakefield allegedly fired two shots in the direction of McKennon. Kleine said McKesson returned fire, killing Davis and Wakefield and wounding Brandon Boyce, 22, who was outside waiting for Davis and Wakefield. The investigation into the case is continuing. |

Over the last several years, there has been a growing debate concerning the use of crossbows in Pennsylvania. At its upcoming meeting, the Penn Game Commission will vote on a proposal that would make Penn. the 12th state to allow crossbows during the state archery season. This meeting will be held from Sunday, Jan. 25 to Tuesday, Jan. 27.
NRA strongly advocates for any expansion of hunter opportunity and choice when there is no biological reason to oppose the expansion. In fact, states that have allowed the use of crossbows have been able to maintain healthy wildlife populations. Additionally, the recruitment and retention of hunters has improved by removing crossbow restrictions.

The NRA joins Nebraska gun owners in hailing state Attorney General Jon Bruning's opinion that concludes the 2006 Concealed Handgun Permit Act forbids cities and towns from preventing the carrying of concealed firearms by permit holders.
Attorney General Bruning's opinion, requested by state Senator Mark R. Christensen, will strengthen the state's right-to-carry law by helping to make clear that permit holders can carry firearms "throughout the state." It also makes clear that cities and towns may not pass new ordinances banning the lawful carry of concealed firearms by permit holders.

A jury of nine men and three women found Birster, 42, of Locust Gap, not guilty of two counts of making terroristic threats and charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct in Northumberland County Court Thursday. The jury deliberated for less than an hour before reaching a verdict in the case.
In January 2007, Mount Carmel Township Police charged Birster after he allegedly walked along Route 901 with a shotgun, allegedly carrying the weapon in a threatening manner. Police were called in, believing Birster was holed up in his home. SWAT teams closed off the highway and a three-hour standoff between police and Birster at his home ensued. |

"I know some view it as a non-starter, just a political attention-getter, not worth expending effort to oppose lest we use up 'political capital' that will be needed for future battles. My own preference is to play Whack-a-Mole as these things pop their heads up, shine the light, bang the pots and pans, and drive them scurrying back under the baseboards. It's my belief that the gun activist community can be sufficiently motivated --by the proper leadership-- to walk today and chew gum six months from now. It's also my belief that if they can't be, if the detachment and apathy is truly insurmountable, we're kidding ourselves about the Second Amendment anyway." |

Chicago's Superintendent of Police says guns are just too easy to get. He says that's part of the reason the homicide rate was up 15 percent last year. Police released their official crime statistics yesterday.
WEIS: There should be some crimes that are just, you're not going to get probation. If you're a member of a gang, you have a criminal history and you're walking down the street with a loaded weapon and we should discover that, I think those individuals should not get probation, I think they should go to jail.
There were 510 murders in Chicago last year compared to 445 in 2007. Police stress that that is much lower than the early nineties when the number hovered around 900 killings per year. |

Wayne Loewer's truck reveals a lot about his life. A 12-gauge shotgun for duck hunting rests on the floorboard..."I'm worried that he's not gonna understand the rural way of life," he says.
"That comment he made about guns and religion, it's frightening, you have to admit," says the secretary at his accountant's office...
Loewer agrees. "I don't believe in going around with a gun strapped to your hip, Wild West-style,...But you ought to be able to protect yourself. When Obama got elected, I...bought a rifle and pistol shells for every weapon I own... "I bought $400 worth of ammo."
Not that Loewer feared Armageddon or a race war; he was stocking up in case the warnings from the NRA and the gun dealers came true. |

Immediately afterward, local officials in the town of 3,200 people launched their manhunt, enlisting the help of surrounding jurisdictions, tribal police, the FBI and the border patrol -- "every guy who ever wore a badge in this county," Fay said.
Authorities asked railway officials to halt trains going through the city. They used fire trucks to block roads leading in and out of Glasgow, resulting in long lines of cars and trucks that idled by the side of highways for five hours.
Residents were asked to stay inside, lock their doors and limit cell phone use so they did not to swamp the phone network with calls. A gymnasium where a basketball game was being held was also locked down for a brief period, Fay said.

A homeowner shot and seriously injured a man who was trying to break into his Triangle home, Prince William County police said. The incident happened shortly after 10 a.m. in the 3300 block of Dondis Creek Drive, police said. When an alarm sounded at a home in the 3300 block of Dondis Creek Drive after 10 a.m., the 47-year-old woman inside the home discovered three men trying to break in, grabbed a handgun and confronted the group, according to police. The three men fled, but one turned and began to approach the woman, who fired the handgun, police said.
Ed.: Triangle is a town of about 5,500 in Virginia, not the shape of the house. ;-) |

I am a police skeptic and a former Sheriffs Deputy. I am increasingly ill at ease with the burgeoning police state, misbehavior of all levels of "law enforcement" and the willing complicity of united States subjects to an ocean of bad laws, both unconstitutional and foolish. What one could call willful submission to illegitimate authority. At every level of policing from local to FLEA (federal law enforcement agencies), the abuse gets exponentially worse with each passing decade and now the Wars on Drugs and Terror have literally loosened the restraints on any remaining (if tattered and threadbare) protections from police mischief. In the end, the robed government employees will, for the most part, excuse or rationalize the criminal or outrageous behavior of the thin blue line. |

Today, the Supreme Court holds that negligent errors by the police generally do not trigger the exclusionary rule.
It applies fully to negligence by police officers in their day-to-day determination whether there is probable cause to conduct a search. If the officer makes an objectively reasonable mistake - i.e., he is merely negligent - the exclusionary rule does not apply to whatever evidence he finds. Put another way, the Supreme Court today extended the good faith exception to ordinary police conduct. |

The Liberty Sphere presents 'The Political Buzz'--the latest whispers and rumors swirling in and around the Beltway.
Go to most any gun store in America and sooner or later you will hear the rumor that big changes are on the way with regard to ammunition under the Barack Obama administration.
Several were overheard to say that one reason retailers can't get adequate supplies of ammo is that encoding is on the way, and thus, manufacturers are waiting until sometime after Jan. 20 to attempt to ascertain whether or not ammo encoding will be required under the incoming Administration.
This would save the manufacturer the costs of shipping out ammo that will only have to be recalled.

This is the first piece I have ever written on Martin Luther King Day, but I am convinced that this year more than ever a clear, concise statement is needed about its significance, within the context of gun rights.
The very first gun control enacted in this country was initiated by the Ku Klux Klan in order to keep firearms out of the hands of blacks.
Even today, the race-baiters, whether they be white, black, yellow, red, or whatever, continue their quest to disarm groups of people for the purpose of keeping them subservient in one form or another.
